Liaoning University of Science and Technology is a provincial undergraduate university. It was founded in 1948 as the junior college department of Anshan Xinhua Middle School. In 1949, Anshan Industrial Vocational School was established. In 1950, it was changed to Anshan Branch of Northeast Institute of Technology. In 1958, it was upgraded to Anshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. at the undergraduate level. The college was transferred from the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry to the Liaoning Provincial Government in 1998. It implements a system jointly built by the central and local governments and mainly managed by Liaoning Province. With the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was renamed Anshan University of Science and Technology in 2002 and Liaoning University of Science and Technology in 2006.
