The Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts was formerly the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts founded by the Communist Party of China in 1938. It is the "cradle of new Chinese art". Comrade Mao Zedong personally inscribed the name of the school and the school motto of "intense, serious, hard-working and open-minded". It is the only well-known higher art institution in Northeast China with strong teaching staff, complete majors, educational level and overall strength that ranks among the top among similar institutions in the country. It has distinctive educational characteristics and has important influence at home and abroad. In 2019, it was identified as a domestic first-class university construction unit supported by Liaoning Province. The school currently has two campuses in Shenyang and Dalian, with a total campus area of 958,000 square meters.
