Macau University of Tourism was established in 1995. It is a public higher education institution in Macau and is supervised by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macau Special Administrative Region Government. It provides degrees and professional training courses in the field of tourism and service industry. In 1997, Macau University of Tourism was selected as the instructor training and consulting service center in the Asia-Pacific region by the Asia-Pacific Tourism Education and Training Institutions Network (APETIT), which is fully supported by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). In the same year, the university was awarded the Gold Medal by the Pacific Asia Tourism Association, which confirmed the content and quality of the university’s courses. In 2002, the University cooperated with the European Union to develop the "Macao Occupational Skills Recognition Standards" (MORS) for Macao's tourism and service industries, and was awarded this award again.
