Macau University of Tourism was established in 1995. It is a public higher education institution in Macau and is supervised by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macau Special Administrative Region Government. It provides degrees and professional training courses in the field of tourism and service industry. Including hotels, tourism, cultural heritage, conventions and exhibitions, retail and marketing, leisure and entertainment, recreational and sports activities, cultural creativity and culinary arts, etc. In addition, the university also cooperates with internationally renowned institutions to offer advanced management courses. In 1997, Macau University of Tourism was selected as the instructor training and consulting service center in the Asia-Pacific region by the Asia-Pacific Tourism Education and Training Institutions Network (APETIT), which is fully supported by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). In the same year, the university was awarded the Gold Medal by the Pacific Asia Tourism Association, which confirmed the content and quality of the university’s courses. In 2002, the University cooperated with the European Union to develop the "Macao Occupational Skills Recognition Standards" (MORS) for Macao's tourism and service industries, and was awarded this award again. In 2000, Macau University of Tourism became the first educational institution to receive the "Tourism Education Quality Certification" from the United Nations World Tourism Organization, confirming that the university's education and training quality are in line with international standards. In 2003, Macau University of Tourism was invited by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Center for the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) to become a founding member of the "Asian Society for Cultural Heritage Management".
