Minnan Normal University is a key university in Fujian Province and a "double first-class" university in Fujian Province. It was founded in the spring of 1958. In 1963, under the personal advocacy and care of Premier Zhou Enlai, the State Council approved the establishment of Fujian Second Normal College, thus opening the door to undergraduate education. In 1986, the former State Education Commission approved the re-establishment of Fujian Second Normal College and renamed it Zhangzhou Normal College. In 1992, it obtained the right to confer bachelor's degrees. In 2000, it successfully passed the first batch of undergraduate teaching work qualification evaluation of normal colleges by the Ministry of Education. In 2003, it was added as a master's degree awarding institution. In 2007, it was listed as a key university in Fujian Province. In 2008, it passed the undergraduate teaching work level evaluation of the Ministry of Education with excellent results. In 2012, it was approved to serve the special needs of the country. The "Southern Fujian Culture and Cross-Strait Exchange Research" doctoral talent training project. In April 2013, it was renamed Minnan Normal University. In 2016, the Ministry of Education completed the review and evaluation of undergraduate teaching work. In 2017, it was identified as a university for the construction of doctoral degree awarding and cultivation units in Fujian Province from 2018 to 2020. In 2018, it became a first-class discipline construction university in Fujian Province. In September 2018, the doctoral talent training project serving national special needs was unanimously approved by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee. In 2021, it was approved as a doctoral degree awarding unit. In 2022, it became a "double first-class" construction university in Fujian Province. In 2023, the undergraduate education and teaching review and evaluation of the Ministry of Education will be completed. The school currently has two campuses, Jiangbin and Yuanshan, covering an area of 2,000 acres. There are 68 undergraduate majors, covering ten major disciplines of literature, engineering, science, education, management, economics, law, art, agriculture and history, with 21,849 full-time undergraduates and graduate students. There are 1,381 full-time teachers, including 733 teachers with senior professional titles and 1,198 teachers with master's and doctoral degrees. There are 10 national high-level talents, including experts enjoying special government allowances from the State Council, national candidates for the Hundred Talents Project, national outstanding scientific and technological workers, and young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions to the country; 170 provincial and ministerial high-level talents, including the Navy High-tech Talent Project, Fujian Province's "Hundred Talents Plan", provincial candidates for the Hundred Talents Project, and young top talents in the "Young Eagle Plan". The school currently has 1 doctoral program (Chinese Language and Literature), 1 doctoral talent training project serving national special needs (Research on Southern Fujian Culture and Cross-Strait Exchanges), 19 master's programs, and 2 disciplines (Chinese Language and Literature, Mathematics) selected as first-class disciplines in Fujian Province. The school adheres to the principle of cultivating people with moral integrity, takes talent training as its central task, continuously deepens education and teaching reforms, and continuously improves the quality of talent training. Since 2018, the school has been approved for 21 national and provincial first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 71 national and provincial first-class undergraduate courses, and has been selected as a national language and writing promotion base. The university has won 8 national and provincial new liberal arts and new agricultural research and reform practice projects, 35 national and provincial teaching achievement awards, 116 provincial education and teaching research projects, and 23 provincial curriculum ideological and political demonstration projects and ideological and political theory courses. The school adheres to the strategy of developing the school through academics, aims to enhance scientific research innovation and social services, feeds back scientific research to teaching, and continuously strengthens disciplines, talent teams and scientific research construction. It has been approved for major bidding projects of the National Social Science Fund, key projects of the National Education Science "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan", unpopular "unique learning" projects of the National Social Science Fund, and key projects of the National Social Science Fund. There are a number of national and provincial and ministerial scientific research innovation platforms, think tanks and scientific and technological innovation teams such as the Indochina Peninsula Research Center, the Minnan Culture Research Center, the Cross-Strait Family Research Institute, and the Education Supervision Think Tank to promote the transfer and transformation of scientific and technological achievements of the school. The school actively carries out foreign cooperation and exchanges, and has established relations with more than 80 universities in Europe, America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asian countries, and Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao, and carried out stable friendly cooperation. Actively carry out education for international students. So far, nearly 300 international students from more than 40 countries including the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Indonesia, etc. have been recruited to study Chinese non-academic courses and undergraduate, master and doctoral degree majors. Vigorously promote the implementation of Sino-foreign cooperative education institutions and projects. It is a Chinese member unit of the "China-US Talent Training Program", "China-Foreign High-level University Student Exchange Program" and "Undergraduate Academic Mutual Recognition Course (ISEC) Project". It jointly organizes dual degree programs with the University of Sussex in the UK and the University of Canberra in Australia. It carries out credit recognition, joint training, international courses, master's preparatory programs and other projects with more than 50 universities around the world, providing new channels for studying abroad for our school and domestic students. The school gives full play to its geographical advantages over Taiwan, actively promotes the study of southern Fujian culture and cross-strait exchanges, and has edited and published a number of Taiwan-related research works such as "Taiwan General History" (6 volumes), "Southern Fujian Taiwan-related Genealogy Compilation" (100 volumes), and "Taiwan Genealogy Compilation" (80 volumes). 7 research results have been approved by the leaders of the Party and the State. It has co-built Yuanshan College with the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots and established an education and training base for cadres and outstanding Taiwan compatriots in the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots. It has been approved as a pilot university for "single recruitment for Taiwan", and has the qualifications to jointly recruit undergraduate, master and doctoral students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas Chinese, and to recruit students from Taiwan who have taken academic tests, unified tests and "subject tests" without examination. It has maintained good and stable inter-school exchanges and cooperation with more than 30 universities in Taiwan. Since 2011, it has continuously held joint talent training projects between Fujian and Taiwan universities, and sent more than 1,500 mainland students to Taiwan for exchange and study. The school adheres to the school motto of "extensive learning, clear reason, hard work and perseverance", is rooted in southern Fujian, based in Fujian, and faces the whole country, providing a large number of outstanding professionals for the society. Since its establishment, it has trained more than 100,000 graduates of various types.
