Nanjing Agricultural University is located in the ancient capital of Nanjing, which is rich in natural beauty and strategic location. It is a key national university directly under the Ministry of Education, with advantages and characteristics in agriculture and life sciences, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines in agriculture, science, economics, management, engineering, liberal arts, and law. It is a key university of the national "211 Project", a "985 Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform", and a "Double First-Class" university. The current party secretary of the university is Wang Chunchun, and the president is Chen Fadi. The predecessor of Nanjing Agricultural University can be traced back to the Agricultural Museum Department of Sanjiang Normal School in 1902 and the Agricultural Department of Private Jinling University in 1914. In 1952, the departments of colleges and universities across the country were adjusted, and the Agricultural College of Jinling University, the Agricultural College of Nanjing University (formerly the Agricultural College of National Central University), and some departments of the Agricultural College of Zhejiang University were merged to form Nanjing Agricultural College; in 1963, it was identified as one of the two key agricultural universities in the country; in 1971, it moved to Yangzhou and merged with Subei Agricultural College to form Jiangsu Agricultural College; in 1979, it moved back to Nanjing and resumed Nanjing Agricultural College; in 1984, it was renamed Nanjing Agricultural University; in 2000, it was transferred from the Ministry of Agriculture to the Ministry of Education as an independent institution. Nanjing Agricultural University currently has 20 colleges (departments), including the College of Agriculture, College of Engineering, College of Plant Protection, College of Resources and Environmental Sciences, College of Horticulture, College of Animal Science and Technology (including Wuxi Fisheries College), College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Food Science and Technology, School of Economics and Management, School of Public Administration, School of Humanities and Social Development, School of Life Sciences, School of Science, School of Information Management, School of Foreign Languages, School of Finance, College of Grassland, School of Marxism, School of Artificial Intelligence, and Department of Physical Education; 71 undergraduate majors, 31 first-level master's degree-granting disciplines, 20 professional degree-granting rights, 17 first-level doctoral degree-granting disciplines, and 17 postdoctoral mobile stations; more than 17,000 full-time undergraduate students and more than 11,000 graduate students; more than 2,900 faculty and staff, including: 4 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 47 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, 3 national teaching masters, 5 national outstanding teachers, model teachers, and advanced workers in the education system, more than 150 people selected for various other national talent projects and talent plans, 2 innovative research groups of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and 7 national and provincial teaching teams. Nanjing Agricultural University's talent training covers undergraduate education, graduate education, international student education, continuing education and cadre training. It has built the "National College Student Cultural Quality Education Base", "National Basic Science Research and Teaching Talent Training Base", "National Life Science and Technology Talent Training Base", "Biological Science Top Student Training Program 2.0 Base" and national experimental teaching centers for plant production, animal science, and agricultural biology virtual simulation. It is one of the first universities to pass the national undergraduate teaching work evaluation. In 2000, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to establish a graduate school. In 2014, it was selected as the first batch of national excellent agricultural and forestry talent training programs. Agronomy, seed science and engineering, plant protection, agricultural resources and environment, environmental engineering, horticulture, landscape architecture, tea science, animal science, aquaculture, agricultural and forestry economic management, international economics and trade, veterinary medicine, food science and engineering, food quality and safety, bioengineering, land resources management, administrative management, labor and social security, English, sociology, rural regional development, tourism management, applied chemistry, biological sciences, biotechnology, finance, accounting, grassland science, mechanical design, manufacturing and automation, agricultural mechanization and automation, agricultural electrification, information management and information systems, computer science and technology and other 34 majors have been approved as national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, and environmental science, ecology, gardening, facility agriculture science and engineering, traditional Chinese medicine, business administration, marketing, e-commerce, animal pharmacy, human geography and urban and rural planning, human resources management, law, investment and other 13 majors have been approved as provincial first-class undergraduate professional construction sites. In the course of more than 100 years of running schools, the school has adhered to the NAU spirit with "honesty, simplicity, diligence and benevolence" as the core, and cultivated top-notch innovative and compound application-oriented talents with "world vision, Chinese feelings and NAU quality", and has cultivated more than 300,000 outstanding talents including 62 academicians. Nanjing Agricultural University has 4 national key disciplines in the first-level disciplines, 3 national key disciplines in the second-level disciplines, and 1 national key cultivation discipline. In the fourth round of national first-level discipline evaluation, four disciplines, namely crop science, agricultural resources and environment, plant protection, and agricultural and forestry economic management, were rated A+, and three disciplines, namely public administration, food science and engineering, and horticulture, were rated A. In the fifth round of national first-level discipline evaluation, excellent results were achieved. Eight disciplines have entered the Jiangsu University Advantage Discipline Construction Project. Ten disciplines, including agricultural science, plant and animal science, environmental ecology, biology and biochemistry, engineering, microbiology, molecular biology and genetics, chemistry, pharmacology and toxicology, and general social sciences, are ranked in the top 1% of the ESI discipline rankings worldwide, among which agricultural science is ranked in the top 1‰ and plant and animal science is ranked in the top 1‱, making it one of the world's top disciplines. Nanjing Agricultural University has established the National Key Laboratory of Crop Genetics and Germplasm Innovation and Utilization, the National Key Laboratory of Meat Quality Control and New Resource Creation, the National Engineering Technology Research Center for Meat Quality and Safety Control, the National Soybean Biobreeding Industry-Education Integration Innovation Platform, the National Information Agriculture Engineering Technology Center, the National Soybean Improvement Center, the National Organic Fertilizer Engineering Technology Research Center, the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Rural Land Resource Utilization and Remediation, and the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Green Pesticide Creation and Application Technology, and other 114 national and ministerial and provincial scientific research platforms. Since the 12th Five-Year Plan, the university has received 9 billion yuan in scientific research funds and won more than 200 national and ministerial and provincial scientific and technological achievement awards, including 12 national science and technology awards as the first completing unit. Actively serving the national poverty alleviation and rural revitalization strategies, with its strong scientific research strength, it has created huge economic and social benefits and has been rated as a "national advanced unit for science and education to promote agriculture" many times. It has been selected as one of the top ten typical projects of targeted poverty alleviation and targeted poverty alleviation (precision assistance) of universities directly under the Ministry of Education four times; it has won the highest level of "good" level in the assessment of the effectiveness of targeted assistance by central units for four consecutive years. Nanjing Agricultural University actively responds to the national "Belt and Road" initiative, continuously improves its internationalization level, and has increasingly active foreign exchanges. It has maintained student joint training, academic exchanges and scientific research cooperation with more than 170 high-level overseas universities and research institutions in more than 50 countries and regions. With world-renowned universities such as the University of California, Davis, Cornell University, Ghent University in Belgium, and Massey University in New Zealand, it has carried out dozens of long-term and short-term exchange programs abroad, such as "exchange and visiting studies", "undergraduate double degree", and "undergraduate and master double degree". In 2019, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it cooperated with Michigan State University in the United States to establish the Nanjing Agricultural University Michigan College. In 2007, it became the Ministry of Education's "Institution of Higher Education for International Students Accepting Chinese Government Scholarships". In 2008, it became one of the first "Education Aid Bases" in the country. In 2012, it was approved to build the world's first Confucius Institute with agricultural characteristics. In 2014, it was jointly approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education to establish the "China-ASEAN Education and Training Center". In December 2021, it took the lead in establishing the "China-Central and Eastern European University Association Agricultural and Life Sciences Cooperation Community". In 2012, the "World Agriculture Award" was initiated. For nine consecutive years, the award has been presented to 12 winners from Cornell University, University of California, Davis, Ohio State University, University of Bonn, University of Alberta, Ghent University in Belgium, University of Ghana, Catholic University of Chile, China Agricultural University and Mekelle University. Nanjing Agricultural University has integrated development of multiple campuses, including Weigang Campus, Jiangbei New Campus, Pukou Campus and Baima Teaching and Research Base, with a total area of more than 9,000 acres. The building area is 740,000 square meters, the collection of books and materials is 2.35 million volumes (volumes), more than 10,000 foreign journals and more than 5 million Chinese electronic books. In 2014, we co-founded the academic journal Horticulture Research with Nature Publishing Group, and in 2019 it was selected as a leading journal in the "Excellence Action Plan" of Chinese scientific journals; in 2018, we co-founded the academic journal Plant Phenomics with Science Publishing Group; in 2019, we co-founded the academic journal BioDesign Research with Science Publishing Group.
