Nanyang Normal University is a general undergraduate college in Henan Province. It was founded in 1951 as Henan Provincial Nanyang Normal School, upgraded to Nanyang Normal College in 1958, and upgraded to Nanyang Normal College in 2000. In 2007, it passed the undergraduate teaching level evaluation of the Ministry of Education. In 2011, it was approved as a "pilot unit for the training of master's professional degree graduates by bachelor's degree awarding institutions to serve the national special needs talent training project". In 2016, it was identified as a demonstrative applied technology type undergraduate college in Henan Province. In 2017, it was approved as a master's degree awarding institution. In 2020, it was identified by the Henan Provincial Department of Education as a key university with distinctive disciplines in Henan Province for key construction. The school covers an area of 2,460 acres, with a building area of 833,000 m2 (excluding those under construction), with a total value of more than 500 million yuan for teaching and scientific research equipment, 2.66 million Chinese and foreign paper books, and 3.76 million electronic books. There are more than 31,000 full-time students. There are more than 1,700 faculty members, including nearly 600 with senior professional and technical titles, nearly 470 with doctoral degrees, and more than 1,380 full-time teachers. There are more than 50 people, including the first-level candidates of the National Hundred Thousand Talents Program, experts enjoying special allowances from the State Council, national outstanding teachers, national model teachers, outstanding young talents in Central China, provincial specially appointed professors, and provincial academic and technical leaders. A high-level teaching staff team with high-level experts as the core and professors and doctors as the backbone has been initially formed. The school currently has five majors in English, Chemistry, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Computer Science and Technology, and Biological Sciences in the first batch of undergraduate students in Henan Province. There are four full-time academic degree master's programs in Marxist theory, Chinese language and literature, Chinese history, and chemistry, and eight full-time professional degree master's programs in international business, law, education, Chinese international education, electronic information, civil engineering and water conservancy, biology and medicine, and tourism management. The school took the lead in carrying out professional skills job matching training for college students in the country, and is the first pilot unit for the construction of a national-level career guidance studio among undergraduate colleges in the country. It has built a national off-campus practice education base for college students, a national maker space, a national college practice education innovation and entrepreneurship demonstration base, a national characteristic major, a provincial first-class major, a provincial characteristic major, a provincial comprehensive reform pilot major, a provincial teaching team and other platforms. It took the lead in establishing a teacher education linkage development community in the southern part of Henan, forming a UDS teacher training model consisting of "Nanyang Normal University-local government-primary and secondary schools". In recent years, students have repeatedly won excellent results in various disciplines at all levels. They have won the overall championship of the National Youth Science Popularization Innovation Experiment and Works Competition, the special prize of the National Engineering Robot Competition, the high-level group championship of the China University Handball Championship, the high-level group championship of the China University Beach Handball Championship, the national silver medal of the Chuang Qingchun University Entrepreneurship Competition, the China Quyi Peony Award, and more than 600 awards at the provincial and ministerial levels. The award-winning results of the China Internet + Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition have ranked third in Henan Province for three consecutive years. In the ranking of college student competitions in general universities across the country released by the Research Working Group on the Evaluation and Management System of College Competitions of the Chinese Higher Education Society, our school won 405 awards, ranking 30th among newly-built undergraduate colleges from 2017 to 2021 and 1st in Henan Province. The art competition index ranks A-level (top 5-10% in the overall ranking) among the 1,098 undergraduate colleges in the country, and ranks first among colleges and universities in the province. The school has 1 characteristic backbone discipline group in Henan Province, 1 cultivation point for backbone discipline groups in special needs and urgent need in Henan Province, 5 new round of key disciplines in Henan Province, 12 master's degree authorization points approved, and chemistry, materials science and engineering are among the top 1% in the world ranking of ESI. It has one national platform, the "University Discipline Innovation and Intelligence Base for Ecological Security in the Water Source Area of the Middle Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project", and 42 provincial and ministerial platforms, including provincial collaborative innovation centers, academician workstations, provincial key laboratories, provincial engineering technology research centers, provincial international joint laboratories, provincial field science observation and research stations, provincial engineering research centers, provincial philosophy and social science laboratories, provincial cultural industry development research bases, and provincial colleges and universities humanities and social science key research bases. In the past five years, it has undertaken more than 160 national scientific research projects and more than 330 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects; it has won more than 350 awards, including the second prize of the National College Teachers Teaching Innovation Competition, the special prize of Henan Province Teaching Achievements, the first prize of Henan Province Social Science Outstanding Achievements, and the Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award; it has obtained more than 500 national authorized patents; it has published 2,600 academic papers in SCI, SSCI, A&HCI, EI source journals, CSSCI, and Chinese core journals as the first author, and published nearly 230 academic works and textbooks. It has successively hosted or undertaken the Academic Forum on High-quality Development of Subsequent Projects of South-to-North Water Diversion, the Fourth International Forum on River Basin Ecological Security, the Nanyang Frontier Science and Technology Cooperation Water Science and Technology Frontier Forum, the 2023 SKA Pulsar Science Symposium and the 12th National Pulsar Annual Conference, the 10th China Aluminum Industry Science and Technology Development Conference and the 3rd International Aluminum Industry Summit Forum, The 10th China Water Ecology Conference in 2022, the International Academic Seminar on Sinology Education, the EU-China Cooperation Seminar on "Resource Utilization of Organic Waste", the International Forum on Eastern Han History Research, the Chinese Jade Culture Lecture Hall, the 9th Annual Conference on Disaster History in China, the Annual Conference on Inorganic Chemistry in Central and Western China, the Feng Youlan Academic Thought Seminar, the Academic Forum on High-Quality Development of South-to-North Water Diversion, and other high-end academic conferences and forums. "Nandu Forum" and "Journal of Nanyang Normal University" have been rated as first-level journals in Henan Province, top 100 social science journals in China, and excellent social science journals in national universities. The school has established long-term cooperative relations with high-level universities in the United States, Britain, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Finland, Sweden, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand and other countries. It has successively established Nanyang Normal University Wolong College (Overseas College) with the Royal University of Technology Bangkok, Thailand, and cooperated with Jeonju University, South Korea, Gyeonggi University and Bangkok, Thailand. The school has cooperated with the Royal Institute of Technology in the Valley to organize undergraduate education programs, established school-level exchange programs for the 121 dual degree programs of the "China-US Talent Training Program" with many state universities in the United States, and signed graduate joint training agreements with the University of Applied Sciences of Savonia in Finland and the University of Mälardalen in Sweden. The scale of Sino-foreign cooperative education continues to expand, and the number of international students ranks among the top normal colleges in Henan Province.
