The Naval Aviation Engineering College of the Chinese People's Liberation Army is a higher military college that mainly trains junior naval command officers and aerospace engineering and technical officers. It is the main base for the training of naval command and engineering and technical talents, a scientific research center in the field of aerospace, and the cradle of aircraft carrier pride. Founded in 1950, the college is one of the first military colleges established in New China. In 1963, it was identified as a key college by the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, and listed as a national key college by the State Council in 1979. In 1986, it was awarded the right to confer master's degrees, and in 2000, it was awarded the right to confer doctoral degrees. In 2003, a postdoctoral research mobile station was established. In the same year, it was listed as one of the 22 academic education colleges in the whole army by the headquarters. In 2000 and 2010, it participated in the teaching work evaluation of the whole army twice, and ranked first both times. It was awarded the "Excellent Teaching Unit of the Whole Army College" by the headquarters. In 2011, it was listed as one of the 16 academic education colleges in the whole army by the headquarters. In 2013, it was rated as the "Advanced Teaching Unit of the Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the Whole Army" by the headquarters. The college has 26 teaching and management units, 6 postdoctoral research stations, 4 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 19 doctoral degree authorization points, 12 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, 50 master's degree authorization points, 6 engineering master authorization fields, 23 undergraduate majors, and the disciplines and professional fields involve four disciplines: engineering, military science, science, and management. There is currently 1 national key discipline, 11 key disciplines and professional fields of the whole army, 7 key disciplines of Shandong Province, 4 "Taishan Scholars" post disciplines, 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 2 key laboratories of the whole army, and 1 key laboratory of Shandong Province. The college has strong faculty and fruitful scientific research results. There are 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 2 dual-appointed academicians, more than 440 professors and associate professors, 60 doctoral supervisors, 232 master supervisors, and 5 winners of the "National 100 Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award". In the past five years, the college has undertaken more than 2,530 national, military and local industrial research projects, won more than 350 national and military science and technology progress awards, and a number of scientific research results have filled domestic gaps, and many have reached international advanced levels. More than 6,940 academic papers have been published at home and abroad, including more than 2,510 papers published in core journals and more than 1,180 papers included in the three major international retrievals. The number of ISTP papers has been among the top 60 universities in the country for three consecutive years. The college has established contacts with 108 national academic groups and intelligence networks such as the Chinese Society of Aeronautics, the Chinese Society of Astronautics, the Chinese Institute of Electronics, and the Chinese Simulation Society. There are more than 70 members, directors and members of the first and second level national societies. The college headquarters is located in Yantai, Shandong, and has a campus and aviation training base in Qingdao, covering a total area of more than 5,300 acres.
