Ningxia Vocational and Technical College of Industry and Commerce was formed by the merger of Ningxia Commercial School, Ningxia Supply and Marketing School, Ningxia Grain School, Ningxia Agricultural Mechanization School (Ningxia Mechanical and Electrical Engineering School) and Ningxia Chemical Technical School. It was upgraded to a higher vocational college in 2002 and changed to its current name in 2006. In the 73-year history of running schools, the college has accumulated and formed the school-running philosophy of "giving equal importance to morality and ability, diversified integration, docking with industry, and serving the society", and has forged the school motto of "virtue, diligence, dedication, and strength". The college has been established as the first batch of exemplary higher vocational colleges in Ningxia, the first batch of 100 backbone higher vocational colleges in the country, "National High-quality Higher Vocational Colleges", "China's Characteristic High-level Professional Group Construction Unit", and was selected as a training and cultivation base unit for principals of vocational colleges of the Ministry of Education, and one of the top 50 higher vocational colleges with excellent integration of industry and education in the western region. It won the "Fifth Huang Yanpei Vocational Education Excellent School Award", the top 50 national higher vocational colleges in the construction of governance system, and the typical college of international cooperation and exchange in vocational education. The college vigorously implements the three major projects of "Navigation", "Soul Casting" and "Golden Key", and has built two model branches of party building in colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education; cultivated and built 4 five-star grassroots party organizations in the education system of the whole region, and 22 four-star grassroots party organizations at the school level; and built 23 school-level party building brand (characteristic) projects in two batches. Create the first "Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era Lecture Hall" in colleges and universities in the region. The college currently has 646 faculty and staff, including 34 senior professional titles, 289 teachers with master's degrees and above, 1 person enjoying special allowances from the State Council, 2 national technical experts, 1 person who is a target of the training plan for famous teachers (masters) and principals of vocational colleges in the new era of the Ministry of Education, and nearly 50 talents of various types at the autonomous region level. The college has 2 national-level skill master studios, 3 autonomous region-level skill master studios, 2 autonomous region-level "dual-teacher" training bases, 6 autonomous region-level "dual-teacher" master studios, and 1 autonomous region talent highland. In the past five years, teachers of the college have won more than 40 awards in teaching ability competitions at all levels, 177 teaching and scientific research projects at or above the department level, and 243 horizontal projects at the college level; teachers have published 724 papers in journals, including 63 papers in core journals; 196 patent projects have been obtained. The college has sent 33 batches of 249 people to visit dozens of vocational education colleges in the United States, Canada, Mexico and other countries. The college has set up nearly 46 majors in 12 major categories such as equipment manufacturing, biology and chemical engineering, and has built a three-level professional cluster system led by 1 national high-level professional group, supported by 2 autonomous region-level high-level professional groups, and 4 school-level professional groups as the main body. There are more than 9,000 full-time students. In the past five years, students have won 17 national awards and 679 district-level awards in vocational skills competitions, 29 national awards and 174 district-level awards in innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, and broke the record of "zero" national first prizes for higher vocational colleges in Ningxia. The college actively carried out the pilot reform of "three-dimensional education" and became a designated college for the training of air force sergeants in 2017. In the past five years, the college's graduate employment rate and employer satisfaction have been above 95%. So far, it has trained more than 100,000 high-quality technical and skilled talents for regional economic and social development. The college took the lead in establishing the National Modern Coal Chemical Industry-Education Integration Community and Ningxia's first "Government-Business-Enterprise-School" Cooperation School Council; it has built 7 industrial colleges, 7 applied technology research and development centers, 23 teacher mobility centers, and 93 off-campus training bases. The college has carried out the "modern apprenticeship system" school-enterprise dual education reform for 13 majors such as coal chemical technology, which now covers more than 500 students. The college covers an area of 1,305.93 acres, with a construction area of 227,000 square meters, a total of 1.2035 million books in the library, and has built 4 China (Ningxia) Modern Vocational Skills Public Training Centers, 3 national-level productive training centers, 3 national-level collaborative innovation centers, 191 teaching-integrated training rooms, and 12,145 sets of training equipment; it has the largest national vocational skills appraisal institute in the region, 1 national-level continuing education base for professional and technical personnel, and 1 autonomous region college student innovation and entrepreneurship demonstration base. The college has successively selected 9 batches and 46 faculty and staff to carry out targeted poverty alleviation, rural revitalization and "group-style" assistance work, and was awarded the "Advanced Poverty Alleviation Unit" in the region. In the past five years, the college has carried out vocational skills training and appraisal (certification) for 21 types of work and 5 levels for enterprises, institutions and retired soldiers. 21,063 people, in 2023, the college was awarded the "Excellent Evaluation Institution for Vocational Skills Level Certification in the Region".
