In November 2021, the Ministry of Education issued the "Letter of the Ministry of Education on the Approval of the Establishment of the International College of Engineering and Technology of the University of North Alabama, Guizhou University" [Jiaowai Letter [2021] No. 38] to the People's Government of Guizhou Province, approving the formal establishment of the International College of Engineering and Technology of the University of North Alabama, Guizhou University (hereinafter referred to as the "College"), which is affiliated to Guizhou University and is a Sino-foreign joint venture institution without legal person status. The Chinese and foreign co-operators of the college are Guizhou University and the University of North Alabama in the United States. The college conducts undergraduate and postgraduate education, and offers three undergraduate majors in mechanical design, manufacturing and automation, environmental science, and chemical engineering and technology, with a four-year study period; and a master's degree in industrial design engineering, with a study period of 2.5 years. The total scale of the college is 1,180 people, of which 110 people are enrolled in the major of mechanical design, manufacturing and automation, 90 people are enrolled in the major of environmental science, and 80 people are enrolled in the major of chemical engineering and technology each year, which are included in the national enrollment plan for ordinary colleges and universities; 30 postgraduate students are enrolled each year, which are included in the national master's enrollment plan. It is not necessary for students to go abroad for a period of time to obtain a degree certificate from the University of North Alabama. The student training process is completed jointly by Guizhou University and the University of North Alabama, and teachers from the University of North Alabama will take on more than one-third of all courses and core courses in various majors. In addition, the college will recruit a certain number of excellent teachers from around the world to teach. Students who complete the content of the education and teaching plan within the prescribed study period, pass the exams, and meet the school's graduation requirements will be awarded a Guizhou University diploma. Students who meet the English requirements and meet the degree-awarding conditions of the two schools will be awarded degree certificates from both Guizhou University and the University of North Alabama; students who meet the degree-awarding conditions of one of them will be awarded a degree certificate from one party. The establishment of the college is in line with the requirements of the national education modernization construction and the needs of Guizhou's local economic and social development. It will cultivate a group of international and high-quality compound talents with international vision, knowledge of international rules, solid engineering professional background, and international competitiveness that meet the development needs of the country and Guizhou. It will help the opening up of national education and the development of new industrialization in Guizhou Province, accelerate the construction of important disciplines and majors of the school, and promote the high-quality development of the school.
