Northeast Electric Power University is located in the beautiful Jilin City, Jilin Province. The school is a key university in Jilin Province. It was founded in 1949 and is the first electric power engineering school directly established by the Communist Party of China. It was named Jilin Electric Power College in 1958 and renamed Northeast Electric Power College in 1978. It was originally affiliated to the Ministry of Electric Power and the State Power Corporation. Since 2000, it has implemented a management model of "central and local co-construction, with local management as the main focus". In 2005, the school was renamed Northeast Electric Power University. In 2012, the school was selected as a key university in the national "Basic Capacity Building Project for Colleges and Universities in Central and Western China". The school insists on talent training, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance and innovation, and international exchanges and cooperation as its own mission, actively adapting to the needs of the national power industry and the economic construction of Jilin Province, and forming a relatively complete discipline system with electric power characteristics as the main feature and multi-disciplinary cross-integration. The school has a total of 15 colleges and 52 undergraduate majors, covering 8 disciplines of engineering, science, management, literature, law, economics, education, and art. The school is a doctoral degree-granting institution and has the right to recommend master's students. There are 3 postdoctoral research stations, 3 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 1 interdisciplinary discipline authorized to confer doctoral degrees independently, 1 second-level discipline authorized to confer doctoral degrees independently, 1 doctoral professional degree authorization category, 15 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, 4 second-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees independently, and 10 professional master's degree authorization categories; the school's engineering science disciplines are among the top 1% of the global ESI, and it currently has one discipline approved for construction in Jilin Province's "World-Class Discipline Cultivation Plan"; there are 9 high-level disciplines with distinctive features in Jilin Province, including 4 first-class disciplines, 4 advantageous and distinctive disciplines, and 1 emerging interdisciplinary discipline. The school currently has more than 23,000 full-time students. The school has more than 1,500 faculty members and more than 600 people with senior professional titles, including 3 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (dual appointment), 2 candidates of the first batch of the national "Ten Thousand Talents Program", 3 national outstanding professional and technical talents, 1 distinguished professor of the "Yangtze River Scholars Program", 3 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions at the national level, 5 national candidates of the Hundred Thousand Talents Project, 3 young scholars of the "Yangtze River Scholars Program", 1 "National Excellent Youth Science Fund Winner", 38 recipients of the State Council Special Allowance, and 1 national teaching master. It has 2 innovation teams of the "Yangtze River Scholars and Innovation Team Development Program of the Ministry of Education", 2 national teaching teams, and 1 of the first "National Huang Danian-style Teacher Teaching Team of Colleges and Universities". The school insists on the central position of teaching work and actively builds and continuously optimizes the innovative talent training system. There are 5 national characteristic majors, 13 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 5 national first-class undergraduate courses, 4 national quality courses, 4 national quality resource sharing courses, 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 1 national virtual simulation experimental teaching center, and 10 Jilin Province Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers. In recent years, the school has won 3 national excellent teaching achievement awards. The school is a national college student cultural quality education base, a national social sports talent training and scientific research base, the first batch of national engineering practice education center construction units, "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" pilot colleges and universities, and a national professional and technical personnel continuing education base. The school has always adhered to the scientific and technological innovation policy of facing the world's scientific and technological frontiers, the main battlefield of the economy, and the major needs of the country, and continuously improved the academic research level and scientific and technological innovation capabilities. The school has carried out various forms of scientific and academic exchanges with universities or research institutions in the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Germany and other countries. In 1998, it was approved to train foreign students. In 2000, the State Council Degree Office approved the school to cooperate with Utah State University in the United States to hold an undergraduate education program in international economics and trade. In 2012, the Ministry of Education approved the school to cooperate with the University of Strathclyde in the United Kingdom to hold an undergraduate education program in electrical engineering and automation. In 2011, the school was approved as an implementing institution for the National Scholarship Council's young backbone teachers' overseas training program. In 2013, the Ministry of Education approved it to become an institution for Chinese government scholarship students to study in China. In 2023, the school and Samarkand International Industrial University in Uzbekistan jointly established the "China Electric Power College". In recent years, the school has been awarded the honorary titles of National Civilized Unit, National Civilized Campus, National Advanced Unit for Open and Democratic Management of Factory Affairs, National Model Collective for National Unity and Progress, National Model Workers' Home, "Top 50 Universities with Typical Experience in Graduate Employment", and Advanced Grassroots Party Organizations in Jilin Province.
