Qinghai Institute of Technology is a full-time public undergraduate school organized by the People's Government of Qinghai Province. It began to be planned in 2019 and was approved by the Ministry of Education in 2024. The school is located in Chengbei District, Xining City, Qinghai Province. The campus covers a total area of 1,641.48 acres and a total building area of 345,300 square meters. It will be completed and put into use in September 2023. 518,900 paper books and 10 electronic book databases were purchased. The school follows the discipline and professional positioning of "focusing on engineering, and coordinating the development of multiple disciplines such as science, engineering, and economics" and the discipline development idea of "strengthening engineering, improving science, and refining business", and has established the School of Ecology and Environmental Sciences, the School of Computer and Information Sciences, the School of Engineering, the School of Business, the School of Marxism, and the General Education Center. It has created 4 research institutions, and the first batch of 13 undergraduate majors, covering 9 first-level disciplines, including 4 provincial key disciplines and 1 provincial first-class discipline under project construction. It focuses on creating disciplines such as plateau ecological environment science, new materials and new energy development, and highlights the characteristics of "ecology +", "meteorology +", "clean energy +", and "artificial intelligence +". In 2023, the school will establish a new master's degree-granting unit and 4 professional master's degree authorization points, and in 2024, it will be approved to train 150 joint master's degree programs. With the support of special policies of Qinghai Province, the school has formed a teaching staff with high moral character, superb professional skills and reasonable structure. Among the full-time teachers, 126 have associate senior titles or above, 108 have doctoral degrees, and 48 have been selected for the Qinghai Province "Kunlun Talents·High-end Innovation and Entrepreneurship Talents" program. The school actively organizes teachers to carry out professional ability improvement training and practical ability training; appoints one academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences as a part-time professor, and flexibly introduces 23 outstanding teaching and research personnel. In the past five years, the scientific research results have won 23 awards at the provincial and ministerial levels and above, and 5 awards for teaching achievements at the provincial and ministerial levels and above. The school was approved to build two provincial key laboratories, including plateau climate change and its ecological and environmental effects, and big data finance and artificial intelligence application technology, and five provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, including atmospheric science, physics, chemistry, computer, and electrical and electronic engineering; jointly build three research bases, including photovoltaic new materials and technology, non-ferrous metal new materials and advanced processing technology, and big data finance and artificial intelligence application technology, and accelerate the construction of three major scientific and technological infrastructures, including the plateau ecological meteorology and surface carbon cycle mesoscale observation tower group, the plateau regional water energy efficient conversion and ecological utilization large-scale research platform, and large-scale green computing power intelligent perception and industrial control safety innovation base. Relying on the East-West Cooperation and Education Aid Qinghai Mechanism, the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Qinghai Province will support the construction of Qinghai Institute of Technology into the strategic cooperation between the ministry and the province, and include the school in the fourth batch of pilot recipient universities of the Ministry of Education's "Silver Age Plan", and build a "group-style" counterpart support pattern led by Nanjing University and participated by Hohai University, Soochow University, and Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology. With the support of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Ministry of Education, Nanjing University has selected two professors to serve as president and vice president, and four supporting universities have selected 22 "silver-age teachers" to support research and teaching at the university. The university will select and send some undergraduates to the supporting universities for exchange and training. The mission is to shoulder responsibilities and strive to create the future. The university will be based in Qinghai, radiate the west, face the whole country, and look to the world.
