Brief History Qinghai Normal University is located in Xining, an ancient plateau city that is the key to the West Sea and the throat of Tibet. It was founded in 1956 and was initially named Qinghai Normal College. It was upgraded to Qinghai Normal University in 1958 and renamed Qinghai Normal University in 1984. After 1997, Qinghai Education College, Qinghai National Normal College, Qinghai Water Conservancy School and Qinghai Banking School were successively incorporated to form the new Qinghai Normal University. After 67 years of pioneering and enterprising, the school has formed a complete education system with undergraduate education, postgraduate education, education for international students, adult education and vocational education. The disciplines and majors cover 10 major categories including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management and art. It is a comprehensive provincial key university with coordinated development of multiple disciplines of liberal arts, science, engineering, management and law with teacher education, ethnic education and plateau regional characteristics. The school has the qualification to recommend outstanding undergraduate graduates to study for a master's degree without examination. It is the first "National Civilized Campus", "Excellent Teacher Training Project Unit" of the Ministry of Education, "Demonstration University for Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform" of the Ministry of Education, "National Demonstration Unit for the Creation of National Unity and Progress" of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, and a national pilot institution for training high-level athletes. Campus Qinghai Normal University currently has two campuses, Chengxi and Chengbei, with a total area of nearly 1,500 acres. Among them, the Chengxi campus is nearly 200 acres, with a construction area of 130,000 square meters. It is lush and green, simple and elegant, and has a long history of learning. It mainly undertakes graduate education, international student education, and continuing education and training. The Chengbei campus is more than 1,300 acres, with a construction area of 337,100 square meters. It has advanced facilities, modern and open, and a magnificent layout. It was completed and put into use in October 2016, and mainly undertakes undergraduate education and academic exchanges. The two campuses have their own characteristics, complement each other, and develop in coordination. Together, they form a modern university campus with rich cultural connotations and plateau scenery. It is an ideal place for studying, studying, and teaching, and a fertile ground for education. Alumni have trained more than 120,000 graduates, and a large number of outstanding teaching experts, scientific researchers, management talents, and business elites have emerged. There are 19,710 students on campus, including 12,102 undergraduates, 2,815 master's students, 266 doctoral students, 7 international students, and 4,520 correspondence students. There are 4 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 17 second-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 21 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, 124 second-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, 10 professional master's degree authorization categories, and 2 postdoctoral research mobile stations in Chinese history and geography. It has been approved as one domestic first-class discipline, three provincial first-class disciplines, and 13 provincial key disciplines. There are 61 undergraduate majors, including 4 national specialty majors. There is 1 national quality course and 23 provincial quality courses. 14 national first-class undergraduate majors and 14 provincial first-class undergraduate majors have been approved. There are 1,261 faculty members and 1,044 professional and technical personnel of various types. Among them, there are 191 senior professional titles, 392 associate senior professional titles, 117 doctoral supervisors, 478 master supervisors, 10 experts enjoying special government allowances from the State Council, 3 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions to the country, and 2 national candidates for the Hundred Thousand Talents Project. Research Institutes The school has three research institutes, including the Qinghai Provincial People's Government-Beijing Normal University Plateau Science and Sustainable Development Research Institute, the "Two Bombs and One Satellite" Spirit Research Institute, and the Qinghai Silk Road Economic Belt Research Institute. Each college has 29 research institutes, including the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Social History Research Center, the Panchen Lama Research Institute, the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Sports Science Research Institute, the Education Science Research Institute, and the Tibetan Information Research Center. It has established the Provincial and Ministry-co-constructed Tibetan Language Intelligent Information Processing and Application National Key Laboratory, the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Surface Processes and Ecological Conservation of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau,There are 13 provincial key laboratories, including the Qinghai Key Laboratory of Medicinal Plant and Animal Resources on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the Qinghai Key Laboratory of Natural Geography and Environmental Processes, the Tibetan Information Processing and Machine Translation Laboratory, the Qinghai Key Laboratory of Internet of Things, and the Key Laboratory of Formation Mechanism and Comprehensive Utilization of Biodiversity on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. There are 6 provincial humanities and social science research centers, including the Qinghai National Education Development Research Center, the Qinghai Student Mental Health Education Counseling and Training Center, and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Culture Research Institute, as well as 4 national and provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, including the "National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Physics". The award has undertaken more than 800 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, including 2 national "863" projects and 3 national major basic research special "973" projects. The school's "Research on Tibetan Computer Keyboard and Input Coding Method" as the first completion unit, and "Innovation and Application of Grassland Ecological Restoration and Sustainable Management Technology in the Three River Source Area" as a cooperative completion unit, and "Research and Application of Key Technologies for Comprehensive Natural Disaster Risk Assessment and Major Natural Disaster Response" and other three research results won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. "Theory and Practice of National Teaching Team Building", "Application of in Law Teaching Reform", "Exploration and Innovation of Comprehensive Reform of Chinese Minority Languages and Literature (Tibetan Languages and Literature) Majors", and "Constructing Social Work Talent Training and Practical Teaching System Driven by Innovation" won provincial teaching achievement awards. The School of Culture and Sports has deeply explored the red education resources and the new Qinghai spirit rooted in the land of Qinghai. It has established the "Two Bombs and One Satellite" Spirit Research Institute and the "Two Bombs and One Satellite" Spirit Exhibition Hall. It has created the drama "Song of Eternal Love" that promotes the spirit of "Two Bombs and One Satellite", which won the "Excellent Performance Award" at the Sixth National Campus Drama Festival and was selected as a special display project of "Respecting the Excellent Traditional Chinese Culture" at the Fifth National Colleges and Universities. The characteristics of plateau sports education and training are outstanding. Li Chunxiu, a student of the School of Literature, won the bronze medal in the women's 10km race walk at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, Qieyang Shijie, a student of the School of Physical Education, won the gold medal in the women's 20km race walk at the 2012 London Olympics, and Yin Shunjin won the gold medal in the marathon at the 12th National Games in 2013. The high-level women's basketball team of the school has won the CUBA (National University Basketball League) Northwest Division Championship 18 times and 3 CUBA runner-ups, 1 National University Super League Championship and 2 runner-ups, 1 National University Games runner-up and 2 third places, and won the 2010 World University Basketball Games Championship and the 2017 World University Basketball League Finals third place.
