Shaanxi University of Science and Technology is located in Hanzhong, a national historical and cultural city and an excellent tourist city in China. It is one of the first universities in the country with the right to confer bachelor's degrees and has a long history of running schools. In 1958, Hanzhong University was established to solve the problem of teachers and other urgently needed talents for basic education in southern Shaanxi. In 1978, it was renamed Hanzhong Normal College. In 1965, in order to meet the strategic needs of the Third Line Construction, the Hanzhong Branch of Peking University was established in Hanzhong. After the withdrawal of the Peking University Branch in 1978, Shaanxi Institute of Technology was established at the original site. In 2001, Hanzhong Normal College and Shaanxi Institute of Technology merged to form Shaanxi Institute of Technology, which was approved as a master's degree-granting institution in 2006. In 2016, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Shaanxi Institute of Technology was renamed Shaanxi University of Science and Technology. In 2019, the school realized the first batch of undergraduate enrollment in Shaanxi Province. The school currently has two campuses in the north and south, with a total campus area of 1.2823 million square meters and a total school building area of 683,900 square meters. The school and biology are listed as the second round of "Double First-Class" construction universities and construction disciplines in Shaanxi Province. It has 9 first-level disciplines such as biology, mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering, and Chinese language and literature, 11 master's professional degree authorization points such as education, accounting, biology and medicine, 1 provincial first-class discipline, and 5 provincial first-class cultivation disciplines.
