Shandong Second Medical University is a full-time general higher medical school in Shandong Province. It is located in Weifang City, the world-famous kite capital in the middle of the Shandong Peninsula. The history of the school can be traced back to the Ledaoyuan Medical School and Weixian American Presbyterian Hospital established in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in Weixian Ledaoyuan. In 1951, preparations were made to establish Shandong Province Changwei Medical School. In 1958, it was renamed Changwei Medical College. In 1987, it was renamed Weifang Medical College. In November 2023, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was renamed Shandong Second Medical University. The school has complete education levels for doctoral students, master's students, undergraduates and international students. Undergraduate education began in 1958. In 1986, it became the third batch of master's degree-granting units in the country. In 1998, it was qualified to recruit international students. In 2012, it was approved to serve the country's special needs doctoral talent training project unit. In 2019, "Major Health Risk Prediction in the Context of Healthy China" and Governance Strategies” research project was approved to recruit postdoctoral researchers. The school is a pilot university for the National Excellent Doctor Education and Training Plan Project, a unit for the construction of famous schools for the training of applied talents in Shandong Province, a school for the Shandong Province Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan, and one of the first batch of supporting units for the construction of applied undergraduate universities in Shandong Province. The Shandong Provincial Department of Education, The Shandong Provincial Health Commission and the Weifang Municipal People's Government jointly build the university. The school has two campuses, Fuyanshan and Yuhe, covering an area of about 2,000 acres and a construction area of more than 710,000 square meters. There are currently more than 17,400 full-time students, including 38 doctoral students, more than 3,100 master's students, and more than 14,300 undergraduates. There are Ledao Academy, Jishi Academy and Confucius Academy. The library has a collection of more than 1.8 million volumes, and has 3 directly affiliated hospitals, 11 non-directly affiliated hospitals, and 14 provincial joint graduate training bases (industry-education integration demonstration bases). The school currently has 19 colleges and 34 undergraduate majors, covering 7 major disciplines including medicine, science, and management. There is currently 1 doctoral talent training program in public health crisis management, 10 first-level master's degree programs, 9 professional master's degree programs, and 59 second-level master's degree programs. There are 5 national-level first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 4 national-level specialty majors, 1 national-level virtual simulation experimental teaching center, 3 provincial high-level application-oriented key project construction majors (groups), and 20 provincial-level first-class undergraduate major construction sites. There are 9 provincial-level specialty and brand majors. In the 2008 evaluation of the undergraduate teaching level of the Ministry of Education, it received the rank of “Excellent”. In the 2017 review and evaluation of the undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education, the expert group spoke highly of it. In 2018, it passed the clinical medicine professional certification of the Ministry of Education, with a certification period of 6 years. Traditional Chinese Medicine Informatics has been approved as a national high-level key discipline of traditional Chinese medicine; the clinical medicine discipline ranks among the top 5‰ in the world in ESI, and has been approved as a “First-Class Discipline in Shandong Province”; the clinical medicine professional group has been approved as a professional docking industry for the conversion of new and old driving forces in education services in Shandong Province. Project; the discipline of public health and preventive medicine is a discipline cultivated and constructed as a "first-class discipline in Shandong Province" and has been approved as a "high-level discipline" in provincial universities; the discipline of pharmacology and toxicology ranks among the top 1% of ESI globally. Won 2 second prizes for national teaching achievements in 2022. The passing rate of provincial master's degree thesis sampling for 9 consecutive years has been 100%. The school currently has more than 1,500 faculty and staff. Xie Lixin and Yu Jinming, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Wang Rui, academicians of the Canadian Academy of Medical Sciences and the Royal Canadian Academy of Sciences, are honorary presidents. There are 3 national-level talents, 19 Taishan scholars, 4 Taishan industry leading talents, 2 new century outstanding talents from the Ministry of Education, 6 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions to the province, and 19 people enjoying special government allowances from the State Council. There are 8 national outstanding teachers, 10 provincial famous teaching teachers, and 60 provincial and municipal top-notch professional and technical talents. More than 60 well-known experts at home and abroad, including Academician Wang Chen, Academician Dai Kerong, and Academician Chen Fener of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, have been hired as distinguished professors of the school. The school currently has 6 national key clinical specialties and 8 provincial key disciplines in Shandong Province. Led by the Academician Workstation, 29 provincial innovation platforms have been established. Led by four provincial-level collaborative innovation centers, it is unique in the fields of major social risk prediction, tissue engineering and repair and reconstruction, targeted drug delivery, and precise tumor diagnosis and treatment, and has produced a number of landmark results. The school has been approved by the Ministry of Health as the Stroke Screening and Prevention Base, the Ministry of Health Assisted Reproductive Technology Training Base, the National Anesthesiology Basic Theory Training Base, the National Clinical Drug Trial Institution, the National General Practitioner Training Base, and the National Resident Physician Standardized Training Base. , National Physician Qualification Examination Practical Skills Examination Base, etc. The China Medical Exhibition Hall for Limb Deformities and Disabilities, the Shandong Provincial Primary Health Management Cadre Training Center, and the Shandong Provincial Public Health Early Warning and Treatment Guidance Center are located in our school. The school is approved by the Ministry of Education to recruit international students in China for undergraduate clinical medicine majors (taught in English). It has established friendly inter-school cooperative relations with more than 60 universities and research institutions in more than 20 countries including the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and South Korea, and has carried out all-round and high-level international cooperation in the fields of medicine and biomedicine. The source countries of international students have expanded to 25 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and the United States.
