Shanghai Industrial and Commercial Vocational and Technical College (formerly: Shanghai Xinqiao Vocational and Technical College) was founded in 1993. It is one of the first batch of full-time private non-profit vocational colleges approved by the Ministry of Education to be independently established and recruit students nationwide (1999), and one of the first batch of colleges and universities in the city to recruit students independently in accordance with the law (2005). In July 2014, it was changed to its current name with the approval of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. It is now jointly organized by social groups and democratic parties in the united front system such as the Shanghai Overseas Friendship Association, Shanghai Overseas Exchange Association, Shanghai Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, Shanghai Chinese Vocational Education Society, Shanghai Federation of Industry and Commerce, and Shanghai Committee of the China Democratic National Construction Association. The school currently has two campuses in Jiading and Qingpu, covering a total area of more than 330 acres; it has 8 colleges including the School of Marxism, School of Public Basics, Datang Information Technology College, School of Education, PICH Modern Service College, School of Jewelry and Art Design, School of Business, School of Intelligent Manufacturing and Automobile, and 1 Malta International College; there are 27 majors for enrollment in 2023, of which there are currently 19 secondary and high school-level majors, 1 high-school-undergraduate major, and 26 higher vocational majors, including 4 national key construction majors, 1 municipal high-level professional group, 1 high-level major, 2 first-class majors, and 1 industry-education integration major. There are more than 7,462 students, 445 faculty members, and 395 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, 49% have master's degrees and 1% have doctors. Among them, 19% have senior professional titles, 37% have intermediate professional titles, and 63% have dual-qualified teachers. The school has 5 Shanghai-level teaching teams, 4 Shanghai-level teacher teaching innovation teams, 2 Shanghai-level curriculum ideological and political demonstration teams, and 1 Shanghai-level higher vocational college engineering technology and craft innovation platform and team; 1 Shanghai Higher Vocational Education Master Teacher Studio and 2 Shanghai Higher Vocational Education Skill Master Studios.
