Shanghai Jiguang Vocational and Technical College is a full-time general college established in 1993 by the Retired Teachers Association of Tongji University and approved by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. It was included in the unified enrollment plan of general higher education in the country in 2001. The school implements the principal responsibility system under the leadership of the board of directors. The first chairman was Li Guohao, an academician of the two academies and the former president of Tongji University. The second chairman was Xia Keqiang, the former vice mayor of Shanghai, and the current chairman is Zhou Jialun, the former secretary of the Party Committee of Tongji University. The school resolutely implements the educational policies of the Party and the State and the relevant laws and regulations on private higher education. It has always adhered to the principles of running schools in accordance with the law and running schools for public welfare and non-profit, and continuously strengthened the standardized management of running schools to eliminate all kinds of violations of laws and regulations. In 2010, the school was rated as an excellent private higher education institution in China. In 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020, it was rated as a Shanghai Civilized Unit (Civilized Campus) for five consecutive terms. In July 2016, it successfully passed the acceptance of the Shanghai Characteristic Higher Vocational College Construction Project and won the "Excellent" grade. In June 2019, it was selected as a "National High-quality Junior College Higher Vocational College (National High-quality School)", and it is the only private higher vocational college among the 200 selected colleges. In October 2020, it was awarded the title of "5A-level Social Organization". The school enrolled 3,100 students in 2023, and 2,882 students reported to the school, with an admission rate of 92.97%, ranking first among similar higher vocational colleges in Shanghai; in the unified college entrance examination enrollment in recent years, the school's planned registration rate and admission registration rate are among the best among similar private colleges in Shanghai. The headquarters (Baoshan Campus) is located on Shuichan Road, Baoshan District, Shanghai, covering an area of 220 acres.
