Shanghai Second Polytechnic University is a Shanghai-based general higher education institution that excels in engineering and has coordinated development of multiple disciplines including management, economics, liberal arts, science, art and education. It focuses on undergraduate education and also has the right to confer master's degrees. It is a construction (cultivation) unit for Shanghai's doctoral degree authorization. Shanghai Second Polytechnic University is a new type of university that has been growing along with the socialist construction of New China. The school was formerly known as Shanghai Amateur Industrial University, which was established in 1960 and was renamed Shanghai Second Polytechnic University in 1984. It is currently the only university in Shanghai named "Industrial University". In the course of more than 60 years of running schools, the school has gone through adult education, full-time undergraduate education and even postgraduate education. It has always adhered to the orientation of cultivating applied technical talents, facing social needs and serving national strategies. It has provided nearly 200,000 technical and applied talents of all levels and types for Shanghai and the whole country, and cultivated more than 130 national and provincial and ministerial model workers. Combining advantageous disciplines, giving full play to the effectiveness of science education, cultivating professional science popularization teams, and producing characteristic science popularization results, it has won nearly 10 science popularization awards such as the Pudong New Area Science Popularization Competition and the Shanghai Science Popularization Education Innovation Award. At present, it has established stable cooperative relations with 171 universities and institutions in 38 countries and regions.
