Shanghai University of Sport was founded in 1952. It was formerly known as East China Institute of Physical Education and was renamed Shanghai Institute of Physical Education in 1956. It is the earliest sports university established in New China. The school was originally a university directly under the State Sports Commission. Since 2001, it has been jointly built by the State General Administration of Sports and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. Since 2017, it has been selected into the national "Double First-Class" and Shanghai's high-level local university construction sequence. In June 2023, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was renamed Shanghai University of Sport. The school adheres to the socialist direction of running schools, strives to implement the fundamental task of moral education, and builds a "five-pronged" education pattern. The Party and the State have always cared about and supported the development of the school. In recent years, General Secretary Xi Jinping has successively visited the Papua New Guinea Training Center of the China Table Tennis Academy of our school, replied to the Papua New Guinea trainees stationed in our school, and inspected the scientific research and innovation projects of our teachers and students in the Zhangjiakou competition area of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. The school currently has three campuses in Yangpu, Xuhui, and Songjiang, as well as teaching points in Jiangwan and Huangpu. It covers an area of more than 1,100 acres and the school building area is about 370,000 square meters. The school became a master's degree awarding institution in 1981 and one of the first doctoral degree awarding institutions in my country's sports colleges in 1986. A discipline system has been formed with sports as the main body, and high-level cross-integration of science, medicine, literature, engineering, management, law, art and other disciplines. In the fourth round of national discipline evaluation, our school's "Sports" received the highest grade of A+. There are 24 undergraduate majors. Among them, there are 13 national, provincial and municipal first-class undergraduate majors. There are 6 first-level academic master's degree authorization points in sports, psychology, medical technology, journalism and communication, Marxist theory, public health and preventive medicine, and 5 professional master's degree authorization points in sports, tourism management, journalism and communication, applied psychology, and business administration. It has a doctoral degree authorization point in the first-level discipline of sports, and all the doctoral degrees in the second-level disciplines of sports humanities and sociology, sports human science, traditional national sports, sports education and training, and has set up 5 second-level doctoral programs in sports management, sports engineering, sports rehabilitation, anti-doping, sports communication, etc. The school has a strong faculty, with about 600 full-time teachers. The sports and health science teaching team was rated as the first batch of "Huang Danian-style teaching teams in national universities" by the Ministry of Education, and two teaching staff party organizations were rated as "national model branches for party building work". Implement the development policy of "giving equal importance to characteristics and quality, and promoting mutual promotion of discipline construction and talent training" and the integration of vocational and general education, science and education, and industry and education. In recent years, it has won one first prize in the national teaching achievement award. In the past three teaching achievement awards (2014, 2018, and 2022), it won 5 national teaching achievement awards and 27 Shanghai-level awards, achieving full coverage of higher education, basic education, and vocational education. Many of the faculty members have won the "Eastern Scholar" and "Pujiang Talent" awards, and have been selected for the "Dawn Plan", "Morning Light Plan", "Sailing Plan", etc., and have been awarded the Baosteel Outstanding Teacher Award. The faculty includes world champions, athletes, and international and national referees. The school actively promotes innovation in talent training through the integration of sports and education. It took the lead in building the world's only higher education institution specializing in table tennis - the China Table Tennis Academy, and was recognized by the International Table Tennis Federation as the highest college-level affiliated training base. The school has co-built the International Handball Academy and the IAAF Special Training Certification Center with the International Handball Federation and the IAAF respectively; and co-built the Chinese Basketball Academy, Marathon Academy, Badminton Academy, Gymnastics Academy and Triathlon Academy with the Chinese Basketball Association, the Chinese Athletics Association, the Chinese Badminton Association, the Chinese Gymnastics Association and the Chinese Triathlon Association respectively. It is the "National High-level Sports Reserve Talent Base" for middle- and long-distance running projects. There are one national and one Shanghai Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center. It vigorously cultivates innovative and entrepreneurial talents with sports characteristics. It is the first sports university to win the national gold medal in the "Youth Red Dream Journey" track of the China "Internet +" College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and the only "Rural Revitalization Award" in the country. It has achieved a zero breakthrough in similar universities in the main track and won the national silver medal. Establish a new model for cultivating top-notch innovative talents "Yunrui Academy". The school and Shanghai Greenland Shenhua Football Club jointly built the Greenland Shenhua Shanghai Sports Women's Football Team. Over the years, it has trained a number of internationally renowned coaches, such as Shi Zhihao, Sun Haiping, Chen Zhonghe, Wang Yuefang, Sun Lian, Shen Fulin, Ma Liangxing, etc. The academic innovation level is in a leading position. The influence of "Sports and Health Science (English Edition)" ranks second in the SCI subject library and first in the SSCI subject library. It won the "Nomination Award for the Fifth China Publishing Government Award Journal Award" and ranked first in the "China's Most Internationally Influential Academic Journal (Humanities and Social Sciences)" for consecutive years. Sports, Psychology and Anti-Doping Shanghai Research Institute were selected as the peak disciplines, plateau disciplines and Class IV peak disciplines of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission respectively. We have built a high-level scientific research platform. The Shanghai National Doping Detection Laboratory is located in our school. We have built 4 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, 7 provincial and ministerial philosophy and social science (including sports industry) bases, 1 Shanghai Collaborative Innovation Center, and 1 frontier science research base. A first-class sports university promotes social services with high quality. We are the first in the country to release the Chinese children and adolescent sports literacy evaluation model, the physical health index evaluation model, and the youth sports skill level standard, etc., providing important guidance for the reform and development of school sports and education evaluation reform in my country. The "Sports Health Teacher" project has been well received by all parties and included in the "14th Five-Year Plan" of the country and Shanghai Sports. The training bases of the three-person basketball national team and the skeleton national team are located in our school. Cooperate with the International Doping Control Agency (ITA) to jointly build the world's first and China's only academic center, cooperate with the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to establish the European branch of the Chinese Table Tennis Academy, and jointly build the "Shanghai Sports-Huai University Overseas Center" (based in the United States) with the University of Wyoming in the United States, and cooperate with Vietnam's Bac Ninh Sports University to carry out joint training of doctoral students. In the Macao Special Administrative Region of China, cooperate with the Macao Polytechnic Institute to carry out joint training of doctoral and master's students in sports.
