Shanghai Xingjian Vocational College is the earliest district-run full-time college in Shanghai. In 2001, with the approval of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and the filing of the Ministry of Education, it was officially transformed from an amateur college in Zhabei District to higher vocational education. Mr. Qian Weichang proposed and inscribed the name of the school "Shanghai Xingjian College", which implies the meaning of heaven's way of being strong and self-improvement. Since the school has been deeply engaged in higher vocational education, it has been adhering to the spirit of self-improvement, the spirit of struggle in the face of difficulties, the spirit of down-to-earth hard work, and the spirit of innovation with determination to reform, constantly improving its vocational education service capabilities, and providing talent support for Shanghai to build a modern international metropolis with global influence. The school is adjacent to the Shibei High-tech Park in the north, the Daning Commercial Center in the south, and the Huanshangda International Film and Television Park in the east; the campus is exquisite and beautiful, with green grass, and it is a "garden unit" in Shanghai. The school focuses on higher vocational education, with a student population of more than 4,000. It has more than 20 majors in secondary colleges such as the School of Information Technology and Intelligent Manufacturing, the School of Child Development and Education, the School of Creative Design, the School of Digital Commerce, and the School of Foreign Languages and Foreign Trade. There are currently 3 first-class majors in Shanghai, 12 municipal-level teacher teaching (innovation) teams, 20 municipal-level boutique (online open) courses, and 3 Shanghai vocational education professional teaching resource libraries. The school fully implements the connotation-based development strategy with quality improvement as the core, adheres to quality as the core, talent as the key, characteristics as the direction, major as the starting point, culture as the soul, brand as the traction, and innovation as the driving force, comprehensively deepens reforms, focuses on difficult problems, systematically plans, coordinates and promotes, and strives for practical results. For many years, the employment rate of higher vocational students in the school has remained stable at more than 97%. In addition to full-time higher vocational education, the school insists on continuing education, skills training and community education, and plays a role in talent training, scientific research, social services and cultural inheritance and innovation for the economic and social development of Shanghai and Jing'an District. The school adheres to the school motto of "advancing morality and self-improvement", promotes the school spirit of "enlightenment, truth-seeking, enterprising, and sincere", and guides students to "learn well, refine art, and practice morality". The school has won the titles of Shanghai Civilized Unit and Shanghai Civilized Campus 9 times, and has been consistently ranked at an upper-middle level in the Shanghai College Classification Evaluation (Applied Skills). In 2020, it became a "Standard School for Governing Schools by Law" in Shanghai. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the school will continue to focus on the social and economic development needs of Shanghai and Jing'an District, and strive to build itself into a regionally close-knit higher vocational college that serves high-quality development and promotes high-level employment.
