Shantou Vocational and Technical College is located in the beautiful coastal city of Shantou. Shantou is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese, a national special economic zone, and a sub-central city of Guangdong Province. It is located at the mouth of Hanjiang, Rongjiang, and Lianjiang Rivers. It is known as the "key point of South China and the gateway to Lingdong". It is the closest city to Taiwan in Guangdong Province. On October 13, 2020, General Secretary Xi Jinping visited the Shantou Special Economic Zone. In February 2021, the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government issued policies to support Shantou in building a modern and vibrant special economic zone with Chinese characteristics in the new era. Shantou Vocational and Technical College is a comprehensive public full-time general higher vocational and technical college. It is a cultivation unit of the Guangdong Provincial High-level Higher Vocational College Construction Plan and a Guangdong Provincial High-level Professional Group Construction School. There are four campuses: the headquarters, Jinyuan Campus, Xinjin Campus and Dongdun Campus, and the campus covers an area of 566 acres. There are 7 secondary colleges and 54 majors, including the School of Electronic Information, the School of Advanced Manufacturing, the School of Finance and Business, the School of Applied Foreign Languages, the School of Construction Ecology, the School of Culture and Tourism, and the School of Art and Design. Among them, the construction engineering management major will jointly recruit "3+2" undergraduates with undergraduate colleges from 2021. There are 14,500 full-time students in October 2023. 1. The school has a long history. The college was established in March 2002 and was established after the merger of five colleges and technical schools including Shantou Education College, Shantou Commercial School, and Shantou Mechanical and Electrical School in Guangdong Province. The history of the college can be traced back to 1956. Over the past 60 years, it has trained about 200,000 high-tech skilled talents, and a large number of educators, entrepreneurs, artists, and skilled craftsmen have emerged. 2. The faculty is strong. The college has 653 faculty members and 603 full-time teachers, including 118 with senior professional titles, 431 with doctoral and master's degrees or above, and 76.8% are "dual-qualified" teachers. 184 part-time teachers from enterprises are employed. 3. Good enrollment and employment. There are 5,799 new students enrolled in 2023, including 5,078 new students from Guangdong Province, and 230 new students from 11 provinces (autonomous regions) including Anhui, Guangxi, Henan, Hunan, Jiangxi, Qinghai, Shanxi, Tibet, Xinjiang, Yunnan and Hebei in the summer college entrance examination. The quality of students is relatively high. The admission scores of the summer college entrance examination are more than 200 points higher than the provincial junior college admission score, and the highest score for physics is 52 points higher than the provincial undergraduate admission score. The employment rate of graduates in the past three years has reached more than 95%, and the user satisfaction rate has exceeded 97%. 4. Service Shantou is in place. The college's professional settings are connected with Shantou's advantageous industries, playing a role in talent training, scientific research, industry-education integration, social training, supporting the "Hundred Million Project", pairing up to help the basic education of Haojiang District, and cultural heritage. It has carried out extensive school-enterprise cooperation, and has applied for a national-level municipal industry-education consortium with Shantou Comprehensive Bonded Zone and Shantou High-tech Zone; it took the lead in establishing the Shantou Vocational Education Group, and built several industrial colleges such as the Bonded Industry College; 15 cooperative enterprises were rated as provincial-level industry-education integration enterprises in Guangdong Province. The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposed "providing education that satisfies the people". The Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government clearly stated that "support Shantou to accelerate the creation of a regional education highland, build a vocational education base that radiates to surrounding areas, and accelerate the construction of high-level vocational colleges and professional groups." The Shantou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government support our college to become a provincial high-level vocational college. At present, our college is actively promoting the construction of provincial "double high" colleges, and strives to make the college a provincial first-class vocational college that is "inseparable from the region, highly recognized by the industry, and influential internationally".
