Shanxi Datong University is located in Datong, a "famous historical and cultural city in China". Its history can be traced back to the 1950s. In 2002, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to merge Yanbei Normal University, Datong Medical College, Datong Vocational and Technical College, and Shanxi Industrial Vocational and Technical College for preparation and establishment, and was officially established in 2006. In 2016, it was selected as a pilot university for the transformation of undergraduate colleges in Shanxi Province to application-oriented universities. In 2017, it became the only university jointly built by the department and the city in Shanxi Province. In 2018, it was approved as a master's degree awarding institution. In 2021, it became the first batch of high-level application-oriented undergraduate colleges in Shanxi Province. The school consists of Yudong Campus and Xinpingwang Campus. The total campus area is 2,121.3 acres, the building area is 903,400 square meters, the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 434 million yuan, and the collection of paper books is 2.8751 million, electronic books are 1.1397 million, and electronic journals are 775,700. There are 32,045 full-time undergraduate students, 297 postgraduate students, and 2,998 continuing education students. There are 2,328 faculty members (excluding affiliated hospitals), 1,602 full-time teachers, 787 professional and technical personnel with senior professional titles, and 428 doctoral teachers (excluding 67 doctoral students). The school currently has 1 National Advanced Worker, 1 National May 1st Labor Medal winner, 1 person in the "New Century Excellent Talent Support Program" of the Ministry of Education, 8 provincial teaching masters, 4 provincial academic and technical leaders, 1 Shanxi Emerging Industry Leader, 3 Shanxi Subject Leaders, 33 Shanxi Talents, and 27 Datong Academic and Technical Leaders. There are 74 undergraduate majors, covering 10 disciplines such as literature, history, agriculture, science, engineering, and medicine. Among them, there are 4 national first-class professional construction sites, 16 Shanxi first-class professional construction sites, 1 national first-class course, 82 provincial first-class courses, 4 provincial ideological and political demonstration courses, and clinical medicine majors have passed certification. There are 3 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 7 master's degree authorization professional categories, and 12 first-class disciplines in Shanxi Province.
