Shanxi Institute of Technology is a private general undergraduate college. The school has three campuses: Beige, Huangling and Taigu. Beige Campus is the main campus. It is located in Xiaohe Modern Industrial Park, Shanxi Province Transformation Comprehensive Reform Demonstration Zone, east of Binhe, Longcheng Taiyuan, and adjacent to the Small and Medium Enterprise Industrial Park of Shanxi Province Comprehensive Reform Zone. The school was formerly the Shanxi Culture and Art School founded in 1991; in 2001, with the approval of the Shanxi Provincial Government and the filing of the Ministry of Education, Shanxi Xinghua Vocational College was established and began full-time general college education; in May 2014, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Shanxi Xinghua Vocational College was upgraded to a general undergraduate college, and the school name was set as: Shanxi Institute of Technology. The upgrade to a college has improved the school's level of education, expanded the school's development space, and enabled the school to leap onto a new platform for survival and development, becoming an important milestone in the school's development history. After the upgrade, the school has continuously improved its school conditions and focused on strengthening its connotation construction around the goal of "how to build the school into a qualified undergraduate college as soon as possible", and has achieved certain results in disciplines, courses, faculty, and infrastructure. At present, the university has 11 teaching colleges (departments), 33 undergraduate majors, covering five disciplines of engineering, management, art, economics, and education, with 14,559 full-time undergraduate students. The university has 6 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 16 provincial first-class courses, and 2 provincial ideological and political demonstration courses; there is 1 provincial "1331 Project" characteristic and advantageous discipline, 1 provincial "1331 Project" data application technology industry college, 1 provincial key research base for humanities and social sciences in higher education institutions, 1 provincial excellent traditional culture and art education base, and 1 provincial "Visit Shanxi, Read History" scientific research station; the university has won the title of "Advanced Unit of China's Private Universities", and has won the title of "Advanced Unit of Spiritual Civilization Creation in Shanxi Province", "Advanced Unit of Science and Education in Shanxi Province", "Forest Unit in Shanxi Province", and "Advanced Unit of Safe Campus Creation in Shanxi Province" for three consecutive times. The university covers an area of 629,100 square meters, and the building area of the school building is 412,200 square meters. Among them, the total area of teaching and administrative buildings is 221,900 square meters, the total area of sports venues is 68,800 square meters; the teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment are worth 98.3018 million yuan; the library collection has 1.2449 million paper books, 1.71 million electronic books, 69,981 hours of audio and video materials, 530 paper journals, and 144,500 electronic journals. The school currently has 1,006 faculty members, including 674 full-time teachers and 238 external teachers, including 108 full-time senior professional teachers, 545 with master's degrees or above; there is 1 member of the Teaching Steering Committee of Ideological and Political Theory Courses of Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education, 1 member of the Expert Advisory Committee of National Non-profit Private Higher Education Institutions, 1 expert in the National Talent Pool of Excellent Innovation and Entrepreneurship Mentors, 1 member of the National Art Professional Degree Graduate Education Steering Committee, and 1 expert in teaching ideological and political theory courses in national universities; there is 1 chairman of the Shanxi New Rural Development Research Center, 1 top backbone talent of Shanxi "Sanjin Talents", 1 top innovative talent of Shanxi Higher Education Institutions, 4 famous teachers of Shanxi Higher Education Institutions, 6 "Teacher Ethics Models" of Shanxi Higher Education Institutions, 1 "Good Teacher" of Lideshuren, 2 winners of the May 1st Labor Medal of Shanxi Education, Science, Culture and Health System, 1 May 1st Women's Model, and 2 top ten entrepreneurial figures of "Chuangxiang Shanxi". 56 well-known experts and scholars from inside and outside the province have been hired as visiting professors of the school. In 2016, the school was selected by the Provincial Department of Education as a pilot university for the transformation of undergraduate colleges in Shanxi Province into applied universities; in 2017, the school was rated as a national applied talent training base and a demonstration university for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform in Shanxi Province. In the same year, the school jointly established the Shanxi Applied Higher Education Alliance with newly established undergraduate colleges in the province, and was identified as the chairman unit of the alliance; in 2018, the school was rated as a model school of private education in Shanxi in the 40 years of reform and opening up; in 2019, the school was awarded the Advanced Unit of Industry-Education Integration in Shanxi Province and the Advanced Unit of Information Application in Shanxi Province; in 2020, the school was rated as an Advanced Unit of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Shanxi Province; in 2021, the school was selected by the Provincial Department of Education as an applied undergraduate construction university in Shanxi Province. Since its upgrade to a university, the school has adhered to the important expositions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on education as its guide, adhered to the development path and direction of socialist education with Chinese characteristics, adhered to the fundamental task of cultivating morality and building people, actively connected, integrated into, and served local economic construction, achieved connotation development, characteristic development, and transformation development, and completed the transformation from junior college education to undergraduate education. It has initially realized the transformation of the management system from unified school management to school and college (department) management, and gradually achieved the transformation of development mode from scale expansion to quality improvement. The conditions for running schools have basically met the requirements for qualified assessment of undergraduate teaching work, and various undertakings have continued to develop, showing a good development trend.
