Shanxi Institute of Engineering and Technology is located in Yangquan City, Shanxi Province, the "first city founded by the Communist Party of China". Its predecessor was the Yangquan Coal College Class of Shanxi Mining College established in 1984. In 1986, Yangquan Coal College was established with the approval of the provincial government; in 2001, Yangquan College of Taiyuan University of Technology was established with the approval of the provincial government to carry out full-time undergraduate education; in 2014, Shanxi Institute of Engineering and Technology was established with the approval of the Ministry of Education. The college is one of the first batch of applied undergraduate colleges in Shanxi Province, the first batch of major platform carriers and training bases for the integration of industry and education in Shanxi Province, and the Ministry of Education Data China "100 Schools Project" Industry-Education Integration Innovation Project Cultivation College, and the "National Applied Talent Training Project Base" awarded by the School-Enterprise Cooperation Committee of the Ministry of Education. The college currently has 13,243 full-time students. The campus covers an area of 784,200 square meters (1,176.26 acres), with a construction area of 325,500 square meters and 206,200 square meters of teaching and administrative buildings. The library has a collection of 1.093 million paper books, and the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 137.2786 million yuan. The college insists on both introduction and cultivation, highlights synergy and integration, and strives to build a high-quality "double-teacher and double-capable" teaching team with a combination of full-time and part-time teachers, sufficient number, and reasonable structure. There are 903 faculty members, including 634 full-time teachers, 544 teachers with master's degrees or above, 160 teachers with senior professional titles, and 153 "double-teacher and double-capable" teachers. Adhere to the fundamental principle of cultivating people with moral integrity, the educational concept as the guide, the discipline and major as the leader, the curriculum construction as the core, the teaching staff as the key, the quality control as the guarantee, the condition guarantee as the basis, and the integration of industry and education as the way to build an application-oriented discipline system and professional system with engineering as the main subject, science, economics, management, art and other disciplines supporting each other and developing in a coordinated manner. 34 undergraduate majors are offered, and 1 advantageous and characteristic discipline of Shanxi Province's "1331 Project" has been approved, 7 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction points, 3 provincial characteristic majors, and 2 provincial advantageous majors have been approved. 1 Collaborative Center for Management and Education of Ideological and Political Work in Colleges and Universities in Shanxi Province has been approved. The college serves the high-quality development of Shanxi, focuses on the "six new" breakthroughs, adheres to the integration of production and education to train teachers, the combination of production and learning to educate people, and the guarantee of school-enterprise cooperation, and constantly improves the application-oriented talent training system of "production, learning, research, application and creation". It has established long-term and stable cooperative relations with Huayang Group, Jinneng Group and other units, and has built 165 off-campus internship bases. It has jointly built an on-campus coal mine real-life teaching and training base with Huayang Group; jointly built an on-campus teaching internship factory with Jinneng Group Huaxin Electric Company; jointly built Shangong Zhiquan Double Innovation College with Beijing Zhongguancun Zhiku Company; jointly built a new material modern industry college with 13 enterprises and institutions including Huayang Group; and jointly built a big data modern industry college with 12 enterprises and institutions including China Telecom. The college has 135 laboratories of various types, and has been approved as one key laboratory of Shanxi Province, one joint laboratory of Shanxi Province, two Shanxi Industrial Technology Innovation Alliances, and one Shanxi Technology Innovation Center. Since the promotion to a university, the college teachers have undertaken 548 scientific research projects of various levels and types, including 2 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 4 major science and technology projects in Shanxi Province, 1 "unveiling the list and leading the team" project of the major science and technology project plan of Shanxi Province, and 271 provincial projects, including 20 basic research projects in Shanxi Province and 3 humanities, social sciences and green development funds of the Ministry of Education. Teachers have published 1,595 academic papers, 77 of which are included in SCI and EI; 316 patents have been authorized; 108 books and 69 textbooks have been published, including 22 national planning textbooks; and 6 provincial teaching achievement awards have been won. Since 2022, the college has been rated as a typical demonstration university for China's dual innovation, the first batch of provincial labor education practice bases for primary, secondary and college students in Shanxi Province, a provincial makerspace in Shanxi Province, a robot science popularization base, and a coal industry science popularization education base recognized by the China Coal Society.
