Shanxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established in 1982 with the approval of the State Council. In 1986, it accepted students from the former Shanxi Medical University College of Traditional Chinese Medicine class and started running the school. It was formally established in 1989 with the approval of the former State Education Commission. In 2000, it obtained the right to confer master's degrees.
