Shaoguan University started offering higher education in 1958 with the establishment of Shaoguan Teachers College. In July 1989, Shaoguan Teachers College merged with Shaoguan University, founded in 1985, and was renamed Shaoguan University in December 1990. In March 2000, Shaoguan University merged with Shaoguan Education College, founded in 1979, and was upgraded to an undergraduate institution, renamed Shaoguan University. In March 2018, Shaoguan University Shaozhou Normal Branch was formally incorporated into the university. In January 2021, the university was adjusted to a provincial full-time general undergraduate university, and Shaoguan University Medical College was formally incorporated into the university. In May 2021, the university became a master's degree granting project construction unit. 1. School Positioning The school aims to "adhere to moral education, serve the society, and build the school into a high-level applied university with teacher education as its characteristics, agronomy and engineering as its development advantages, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines". It focuses on implementing the four development strategies of "connotation development, characteristic development, talent-driven school, and cooperative development". It insists on taking root in Shaoguan, based in northern Guangdong, serving Guangdong, radiating Hong Kong and Macao, and facing the whole country, comprehensively promoting the cultivation of applied talents, and continuously enhancing its comprehensive school-running strength and core competitiveness. Since its establishment, it has cultivated more than 300,000 talents of various types for the society. 2. School Scale The school covers a total area of 2,571 acres. The school headquarters has Shaoleyuan (main campus), Hanjiashan, Huangtianba and other campuses. The total building area of the school is 899,000 square meters; the collection of paper books is 2.93 million. The school focuses on full-time undergraduate education, taking into account graduate education, and recruits students from 25 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government), Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and many countries. There are 26,200 full-time undergraduate and junior college students and 5,000 adult education students. There are 11 disciplines, including liberal arts, science, engineering, agriculture, law, management, art, education, economics, history, and medicine, 17 secondary colleges, and 71 undergraduate majors. III. Faculty There are 1,607 full-time teachers, 129 with senior professional titles, 345 with deputy senior professional titles, 607 doctors, and 803 masters. There is 1 national inspector, 4 experts enjoying special allowances from the State Council, 2 national outstanding teachers, 1 national advanced worker in the education system, 5 provincial teaching masters, 10 outstanding teachers in South Guangdong, 2 outstanding educators in South Guangdong, and 1 leader in the propaganda, ideology and culture project of the "Guangdong Special Support Plan". 4. Education and Teaching The school currently has 1 national characteristic major, 1 national first-class undergraduate course, and 1 national practical education base for college students; 14 provincial first-class undergraduate majors, 9 provincial characteristic majors, 3 provincial key majors, 3 IEET-certified majors, and 2 majors certified by the Ministry of Education for normal majors; 43 provincial first-class undergraduate courses. It has 4 provincial industrial colleges, 1 provincial demonstrative industrial college, 3 provincial science-industry-education integration practical teaching bases, and 22 provincial college student practical teaching bases; 2 provincial collaborative education platforms, 39 provincial demonstrative teacher education practice bases, and 15 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers. The school was selected as a cooperative college of the Ministry of Education-ZTE ICT Industry-Education Integration Innovation Base Project. The school won the National Classroom Demonstration School, the Ministry of Education's "2020 Online Learning Space Application Popularization Activity Excellent School", and was approved as the "Guangdong Province to Create a National Teacher Education Innovation Experimental Zone" construction unit. 5. Discipline Research The school focuses on creating five characteristic disciplines and professional groups that meet local development needs, such as teacher education, modern agriculture, electromechanical equipment, information technology, and cultural tourism. There are 5 provincial characteristic key (cultivation) disciplines, 3 provincial key construction disciplines for "strengthening", 6 municipal and school co-construction key (cultivation) disciplines, and 22 school-level key (support) disciplines. A three-level key discipline construction system of "province, municipal and school co-construction, school" has been established. There are 30 scientific research platforms above the provincial level (including 1 provincial key laboratory) and 8 provincial scientific research innovation teams. There are Guangdong Provincial Doctoral Workstation and "South China Agricultural University-Shaoguan University Postdoctoral Innovation and Practice Base". In the past five years, 1,705 vertical scientific research projects have been added, including 243 at the provincial and ministerial levels. VI. Talent training In the past five years, students have won 2,595 awards at the provincial level or above in subject competitions, including 621 at the national level, and have been in the top 100 of the national newly-built undergraduate colleges and universities for three consecutive years. The admission rate of graduates to postgraduate entrance examinations has exceeded 10%, and the implementation rate of graduates' graduation destinations at the end of the year has remained stable at around 95%. Won 2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals in the national competition of the China International "Internet +" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, 4 gold medals and 7 silver medals in the provincial finals; Guangdong "Zhongchuang Cup" Entrepreneurship and Innovation Competition Rural Revitalization Special Competition Enterprise Group Gold Award; 4 students were listed in the top 100 list of college student entrepreneurship heroes in the country. The school has been successfully approved as "Guangdong Province College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Demonstration School", "Guangdong Province Entrepreneurship Incubation Demonstration Base", and "National First Innovation and Entrepreneurship Teaching and Research Base". The school has been rated as "Provincial Advanced Unit for Conscription Work" for three consecutive years. VII. Serving the local service The level of high-quality development of basic education has been continuously improved. 8 teacher education practice innovation bases (including 2 provincial bases) have been built in Shaoguan and Qingyuan, making positive contributions to the acceptance of "Guangdong Province's Advanced Districts and Counties for Promoting Education Modernization". Established cooperative relations with more than 150 local government departments, colleges and universities, scientific research institutions, and industry enterprises. In the past five years, 604 industry-university-research cooperation projects have been obtained, with a project fund of 105 million yuan. The exploration and establishment of new high-tech agricultural development models such as "Science and Technology Courtyard", "Spark Technology Service Platform" and "Phalaenopsis Plant Factory" have been widely praised. Give full play to the role of humanities and social science platforms (bases) at all levels in provinces and cities, and actively carry out local legislative research and cultural inheritance and revitalization. The research work on the history of education in South China has been widely reported by media such as People's Daily and Phoenix TV, and has been fully affirmed by provincial and municipal leaders and relevant departments many times. 8. International Exchange and Cooperation The school actively serves the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It has been listed by the Ministry of Education as a mainland university that recruits Hong Kong students without examination, and has been listed as a Chinese cultural inheritance base by the Provincial Overseas Chinese Affairs Office. It has established friendly and cooperative relations with more than 50 universities and educational institutions in many countries such as the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Canada, Australia, South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and has carried out 36 projects such as Sino-foreign cooperative education, Sino-foreign joint training, exchange students, exchange students, short-term training, short-term art practice, and undergraduate to master's degree.
