Sichuan International Studies University, referred to as "Sichuan Foreign Languages University", is located in Shapingba District, Chongqing. It is a full-time general college approved by the Ministry of Education of China and affiliated to the Chongqing Municipal People's Government. It is one of the four earliest foreign language colleges and universities established in the country. The school adheres to the fine school spirit of "unity, diligence, rigor and pragmatism", promotes the school motto of "embracing all rivers and learning from both China and foreign countries", and has formed the school-running characteristics of "international orientation, foreign language co-core, and diversified development", and has opened up a school-running path of "connotation development, quality first, Sino-foreign cooperation, and classified training". The school has now developed into a multi-disciplinary foreign language university with foreign languages and literature as the main discipline, and literature, education, economics, management, law, art and other disciplines coordinated development. It has a complete school-running system with multiple forms and levels, including doctoral graduate education, master's graduate education, undergraduate education, international student education, continuing education and intensive training. The school also has a postdoctoral research station for foreign languages and literature, and has founded academic journals such as "Foreign Languages" and "English Studies". The school has become an important base for the cultivation of foreign language and foreign-related talents, as well as the research of foreign languages and culture, foreign economic and trade, and international issues in the southwest region. History Sichuan International Studies University (abbreviated as "Sichuan Foreign Languages University", in English, Sichuan International Studies University, abbreviated as SISU) was founded in 1950. It was established under the kind care and guidance of the older generation of proletarian revolutionaries such as Deng Xiaoping, Liu Bocheng, and He Long. It has gone through five stages: the Russian Training Corps of the Southwest Military and Political University of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (1950), the Russian Battalion of the Second Advanced Infantry School of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (1951), the Russian Department of the Southwest People's Revolutionary University (1952), the Southwest Russian College (1953), and the Sichuan International Studies University (1959). In 2013, it was renamed Sichuan International Studies University and was approved by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee as a doctoral degree-granting institution in the same year. Campus Environment The school is backed by Gele and faces Jialing. The campus extends to Gele Mountain in steps. It is shaded by trees, with an elegant environment and beautiful scenery. It is a garden-style unit named by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government and a famous harmonious ecological campus in Chongqing. It is a mini mountain city in the big mountain city. Disciplines and majors The school has a multi-level school system including full-time undergraduate, master's and doctoral graduate education. It has 22 teaching units, 1 affiliated middle school and 1 affiliated primary school. The school offers 55 undergraduate majors, including 26 foreign language majors (24 foreign languages). It recruits undergraduate students from 30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities across the country. There are more than 17,000 full-time students. The school focuses on foreign languages and literature, and coordinates the development of multiple disciplines such as literature, economics, management, law, education, philosophy, and art. The school has 1 first-level discipline authorized to confer doctoral degrees, including 13 second-level disciplines; 5 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, including 49 second-level disciplines; 10 professional master's degree authorization points, covering 49 professional master's degree authorization fields; the first-level discipline of foreign languages and literature has been approved as a postdoctoral research mobile station. The school currently has 4 national characteristic professional construction points, 8 provincial characteristic professional construction points, 18 national first-class professional construction points, and 27 provincial first-class professional construction points; there is 1 national comprehensive reform pilot major, 2 provincial comprehensive reform pilot majors; there are 12 Chongqing "Three Special Action Plan" project characteristic majors, and 3 characteristic discipline professional groups. Faculty Team The school adheres to the "talent-strengthening school" strategy and fully implements the faculty team construction project. There are 1,354 faculty and staff in the school, 899 full-time teachers, of which 50.95% have senior professional titles and 46.50% have doctors. The school has built 3 provincial key research bases for humanities and social sciences, 3 national and regional research cultivation/recordation bases of the Ministry of Education, and 2 Chongqing 2011 Collaborative Innovation Centers. The school journal Foreign Languages is a national core journal of Chinese foreign languages, and English Studies is a CSSCI source journal. The school has established applied research platforms such as the Regional and Country Research Institute, the Contemporary China Research Institute, the BRICS Research Institute, the Chongqing International Strategic Research Institute, the Contemporary International Discourse System Research Institute, the Chongqing International Education Development Research Center, and the Chongqing Education Law Research Center, and has produced a number of valuable and highly visible research results. The school is the president unit of the second-level associations of national associations such as the Chinese Foreign Language Interface Research Association, the Chinese Language Education Research Association, the Chinese and Western Language Philosophy Research Association, and the Chinese Cognitive Communication Association. The International Cooperation School has established inter-school cooperation and exchange relations with more than 100 universities and institutions in more than 30 countries or regions, and has established two Sino-foreign cooperative education projects approved by the Ministry of Education, such as Sino-Australian Business English and Sino-French Logistics Management. It has established three Confucius Institutes with the Nizhny Novgorod National Language University in Russia, the University of Lomé in Togo, and the Central Education Service Center of Eastern Ohio in the United States, and one Confucius Classroom with the Siyuan Chinese Language School in Ecuador. In recent years, the school has actively carried out various types of undergraduate, master and doctoral talent training, teacher training, scientific research cooperation, and overseas talent introduction. It receives more than 400 international students, more than 70 long-term and short-term foreign experts and foreign teachers, more than 100 teachers and more than 600 students each year. The school is one of the universities of the Global Alliance of Foreign Language Universities (GAFSU) and a formal member of the Association of Universities of French Language (AUF). It has cooperated with foreign governments and educational institutions to establish foreign-related education and cultural exchange institutions such as the Goethe Language Center, the Cervantes Language Center, the Italian Center, the Russian Center, and the Belarus Research Center. School conditions The school covers an area of 71 hectares and has complete teaching facilities. It has relatively complete foreign language teaching multimedia classrooms, voice laboratories, simultaneous interpretation laboratories, and translation laboratories in the southwest region. At present, the school has more than 110 teaching laboratories and has built three Chongqing Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers, namely the Foreign Language Experimental Center, the Comprehensive Communication Skills Experimental Center, and the Diplomatic and Foreign Affairs Experimental Center; the Foreign Language Experimental Center has nearly 4,000 seats, an area of about 10,000 square meters, and equipment worth about 30 million yuan. The school library currently has a total of 1.3 million paper books in 22 languages, 1.85 million electronic books, 64,460 electronic journals totaling 1 million, and a total of 99 databases. In recent years, our school has actively introduced 93 Chinese and foreign databases including the China Journal Master and Doctoral Dissertation Database (CNKI), Super Star Discovery System, GALE Reference Books, PQDT Dissertations, etc.; it has built its own German-specific database and CD-ROM release system database, and has built a document resource guarantee system that combines paper documents with electronic documents, physical collections with virtual collections. Social Service The school uses its foreign language advantages and characteristics to serve the society, providing intellectual support and talent support for improving the level of Chongqing's inland open highland construction, creating a better open economic environment, and promoting the internationalization and diversification of Chongqing's industries. The school is a member of the University Alliance of Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle.
