Silicon Lake Vocational and Technical College is a full-time general college approved by the People's Government of Jiangsu Province and registered by the Ministry of Education. It is one of the earliest private higher vocational colleges in Jiangsu Province, the first private college in Suzhou City, and the first college in Kunshan's history. The school was founded in 1998 by Dr. Liang Shuncai and Dr. Shi Baofeng, famous educators and architects, and has a 24-year history of running schools. At the beginning of its establishment, according to the approval of the provincial government on the establishment of a private Silicon Lake University, the school was built according to the requirements of a first-class undergraduate university. In 2002, the Ministry of Education approved the name Silicon Lake Vocational and Technical College. The college is located in Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province, backed by Suzhou and close to Shanghai. It is the core area of the Yangtze River Delta, which is the most developed and active in China's economy and society. The school adheres to the school motto of "responsibility and honor", adheres to the school-running purpose of "cultivating high-quality compound technical and skilled talents with innovative and entrepreneurial spirit and ability", based on Suzhou, economics, management, art, education and other disciplines coordinated development of the professional system, focus on cultivating high-quality entrepreneurial technical and skilled talents. The college currently has 9 secondary colleges, including the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Computer Science and Technology, the School of Automotive and Transportation Engineering, the School of Architecture and Environmental Engineering, the School of Economics and Management, the School of Culture and Creativity, the School of Child Development, the School of Marxism, and the School of Continuing Education. It offers 35 application-oriented majors that are closely aligned with the needs of local economic development, including mechatronics technology, industrial robot technology, new energy vehicle technology, and early childhood development and health management. There are more than 6,500 students on campus. In the past three years, students from the whole school have won more than 100 awards in various national and provincial professional skills competitions, including more than 30 national awards and more than 70 provincial awards. Graduates have high comprehensive qualities and strong hands-on ability. The pass rate of professional skills certificates is more than 98%, the employment rate has reached more than 98% over the years, and the employers’ satisfaction rate with graduates is more than 95%. In the 2016-2018 graduate employment evaluation of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, it was awarded the "Excellent" grade.
