Siping Vocational University was established in 1983. It is a full-time public general higher vocational college approved by the People's Government of Jilin Province and registered by the Ministry of Education. It is the earliest higher vocational college in Jilin Province with a history of ten years of undergraduate education. The school covers an area of 344,000 square meters and a building area of 200,000 square meters. It has a standard library, gymnasium, multi-functional lecture hall, 400-meter plastic weatherproof playground, 2,000 square meters of silicon PU lighted stadium, school hospital and other supporting facilities. In 2010, it was identified as a model higher vocational college in Jilin Province. In 2014, it passed the national talent training work evaluation again with high quality. At the end of 2014, the provincial government agreed to merge Siping Medical and Health School and Siping Urban Construction Workers Technical Secondary School into Siping Vocational University. The school established the School of Medicine based on the original Siping Medical and Health School. In March 2015, Siping Light Chemical Industry School and Siping Commercial School were merged into Siping Vocational University. In April 2017, the Siping Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government designated the Siping Health School of Jilin Province as the direct management of Siping Vocational University, and the two schools jointly operated the school. The development scale and school conditions of Siping Vocational University have made a qualitative leap, and the school has entered a new period of rapid development. The school has a medical college, a mechanical engineering college, an electronic engineering college, a finance and economics college, a computer engineering college, a construction engineering college, an aviation and tourism college, a management college, a Zhongrui Automobile College, a continuing education college, and a secondary vocational school. There are 40 majors for enrollment, and the majors cover 9 disciplines including medicine and health, mechanical manufacturing, electronic information, finance, public utilities, civil engineering, transportation, culture and education, art design and media. There are nearly 10,000 full-time students. The school pays attention to professional construction, taking the construction of characteristic and demonstration majors as the leader, and driving the construction of professional groups. In 2011, the electrical automation technology major was identified as a provincial demonstration major. The mechanical manufacturing professional group and the financial professional group were identified as the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" characteristic professional groups in Jilin Province. The majors of mechanical design and manufacturing and accounting computerization were selected into the 2011-2012 Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance's "Central Finance Supports Higher Vocational Schools to Improve Professional Service Industry Development Capacity Construction" project. At the end of 2013, four professional groups, namely mechanical design and manufacturing group, electrical automation technology group, computer application technology group and construction engineering technology group, were identified as key professional groups for provincial demonstration schools. The school has a strong faculty and a team of teachers with ten years of undergraduate experience. At present, a teaching team with a "double-teacher structure" has been formed, which is a combination of full-time and part-time teachers, with full-time teachers in the school as the main body and enterprise technicians as the auxiliary. Among the full-time teachers of the school, there are 185 people with professional and technical titles of associate senior or above, and 246 dual-teacher teachers. Students of all majors can take the "junior college to undergraduate" examination organized by Jilin Province, and be admitted to famous colleges and universities in the province such as Jilin Normal University, Northeast Electric Power University, Jilin Institute of Chemical Technology, Jilin University of Architecture, Beihua University, Jilin Business College, Changchun Normal University, etc., to receive full-time undergraduate education. In the 2016 "junior college to undergraduate" examination, 105 students from the school applied for the examination, and 41 were admitted, with an admission rate of 39%, which is much higher than the provincial junior college admission rate of 5%, ranking among the top similar colleges in the province.
