South China Agricultural University is a national "double first-class" construction university. The campus is located in Guangzhou, which is known as the "Flower City". The total land area is 8,261 acres, including 4,457 acres of Tianhe Wushan campus and 3,804 acres of Zengcheng teaching and research base. The total building area of the school is 1.4 million square meters. The natural scenery and cultural landscape complement each other, forming a beautiful environment of "five lakes and four seas and one forest". The school's history can be traced back to the Guangdong Provincial Agricultural Experimental Field and the attached Agricultural Training Institute, which was founded in 1909. In 1952, during the adjustment of colleges and departments of universities across the country, the Agricultural College of Sun Yat-sen University, the Agricultural College of Lingnan University and part of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department and the Pest and Disease Department of the Agricultural College of Guangxi University were merged to form the South China Agricultural College, which was under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Agriculture; Chairman Mao Zedong personally wrote the name of the school. In 1984, it was renamed South China Agricultural University. In 2000, the state deepened the reform of the university management system, and the school was transferred from the Ministry of Agriculture to the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province. The current party secretary of the school is Li Fengliang and the president is Xue Hongwei. South China Agricultural University is a comprehensive university with advantages in agricultural science and life science, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as agriculture, engineering, literature, science, economics, management, law, and art. The school has a complete range of disciplines, including 98 undergraduate majors, 13 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 2 doctoral professional degree categories, 29 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, and 20 master's professional degree categories. Crop science was selected as a national "first-class construction discipline" and 10 key construction disciplines of Guangdong Province's high-level university construction plan were approved. Botany and zoology, and agricultural sciences entered the top 1‰ of the ESI global ranking; botany and zoology, chemistry, agricultural sciences, materials science, environmental science and ecology, microbiology, biology and biochemistry, engineering, molecular biology and genetics, immunology, computer science, pharmacology and toxicology, and general social sciences (sorted by citation count) 13 disciplines entered the top 1% of the ESI global ranking. The school has a strong faculty. There are 3,390 faculty members, including 2,626 full-time teachers (481 senior and 958 associate senior); 3 academicians, 63 national talent project winners, 107 provincial talent project winners; 4 national teaching masters. The school adheres to educating people for the party and cultivating talents for the country, and is committed to cultivating top-notch innovation and industry leaders with lofty ideals, patriotism, excellent skills and pragmatic spirit. The school has 25 colleges (departments) and currently has more than 50,000 students (including international students), including more than 37,000 undergraduates and more than 12,000 postgraduates. There are 27 national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 12 national characteristic majors, 2 professional comprehensive reform pilots, 8 pilot majors for the reform of the excellent agricultural and forestry talent education and training plan, as well as 42 national first-class undergraduate courses and many national boutique courses, boutique video open courses, boutique resource sharing courses, and boutique online open courses. In the past two sessions, the school has won 5 national teaching achievement awards (including 1 first prize and 3 second prizes). The school has been identified by the Ministry of Education as a "National University with Typical Experience in Graduate Employment" and a pilot university for the comprehensive reform of "Three-dimensional Education". It has been identified by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education as the first batch of "Guangdong Province Course Ideological and Political Reform Demonstration University" and "Guangdong Province Course Ideological and Political Teaching Research Demonstration Center". Adhere to the "four orientations" and serve to achieve high-level scientific and technological self-reliance. In recent years, it has won 12 national science and technology awards, achieving full coverage of the three major national science and technology progress, technological inventions and natural science awards. The university attaches great importance to industry-university-research cooperation and social services. It has established the Rural Revitalization Research Institute and the New Rural Development Research Institute. The university, local governments and enterprises have jointly built 49 new industry-university-research R&D institutions; it has jointly built 3 local branches of the Rural Revitalization Research Institute and 7 local branches of the New Rural Development Research Institute with the government. The university actively builds a new pattern of opening up to the outside world and helps build a community with a shared future for mankind. At present, it has signed 235 cooperation agreements or memoranda with 148 universities and research institutions in 46 countries and regions, and established the Guangzhou Dublin International School of Life Sciences and Technology. It has been approved for 3 national higher education discipline innovation and intelligence introduction bases (referred to as the "111 Plan"); joined the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance, and academic exchanges with universities in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan are increasingly strengthened. The university was approved to lead the creation of the "Science and Technology Innovation China" and "Belt and Road" International Agricultural Pest Control Technology Green Control Professional Science and Technology Innovation Institute and the "Science and Technology Innovation China" China-Pakistan Soybean Industry Science and Technology Innovation Institute; the "China-Latin America Agricultural Education and Science and Technology Innovation Alliance" led by the university has a wide influence, and 68 colleges and scientific research institutions in 15 countries in China and Latin America have joined the alliance.
