Southeast University is located in Nanjing, the ancient capital of the Six Dynasties. It is a famous institution of higher learning renowned both at home and abroad. The school is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of China and co-built with Jiangsu Province. It is one of the key universities in the national "985 Project" and "211 Project". In 2017, Southeast University was selected into the list of Class A universities for the construction of world-class universities. Southeast University is a university with a long history and profound cultural heritage. The school was founded in 1902 as Sanjiang Normal School, and later went through important development periods such as Liangjiang Normal School, Nanjing Higher Normal School, National Southeast University, and National Central University. In 1952, the colleges and departments of colleges and universities across the country were adjusted, and the school's liberal arts and science departments moved out. With the former National Central University School of Engineering as the main body, it was successively merged with related departments of Fudan University, Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, Jinling University and other schools, and Nanjing Institute of Technology was established on the original site of the National Central University. In May 1988, the school was renamed Southeast University. In April 2000, the former Southeast University, Nanjing Railway Medical College, and Nanjing Transportation College were merged, and Nanjing Geological School was incorporated to form the new Southeast University. In the course of more than 120 years of running schools, Southeast University has always cared about the world and the motherland, and has been self-reliant and pursued excellence for scientific progress and national rejuvenation. It has gradually formed the fine school spirit of "rigorous, realistic, united, and progressive" and the school philosophy of "be famous for science and serve the country with talents", and has forged the school motto of "stopping at perfection". Southeast University currently has 36 colleges and departments, 90 undergraduate majors, 41 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, 52 first-level master's degree authorization points, 10 doctoral professional degree authorization points, and 30 master's professional degree authorization points. There are 40,220 full-time students, including 16,931 undergraduates and 23,289 postgraduates; there are 2,005 international students, including 1,750 academic students. The university has campuses such as Sipailou, Jiulonghu, and Dingjiaqiao, covering an area of 5,888 acres, of which Jiulonghu Campus covers 3,752.35 acres, with a total construction area of about 908,900 square meters. The school library covers an area of 66,900 square meters, with 4.78 million volumes of various paper books and materials, and can access 149 database retrieval platforms (234 secondary databases). The school also has Wuxi Campus and Suzhou Campus. Southeast University is a comprehensive, research-oriented university with engineering as its main feature, covering multiple disciplines such as philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, science, engineering, medicine, management, art, and history. Twelve disciplines of the university were selected into the list of national "Double First-Class" disciplines, ranking eighth in the country; 14 disciplines entered the top 1% of ESI in the world, among which engineering degree ranked 14th in the world, firmly in the top 1/10,000 of ESI in the world, computer science newly entered the top 1/10,000 of ESI in the world, ranking 7th in the world, and materials science and chemistry ranked in the top 1/1000 of ESI in the world. The university took the lead in building 3 national key laboratories, relied on co-building 3 national key laboratories, took the lead in building 1 national technology innovation center, co-built 1 national technology innovation center, took the lead in building 1 national engineering research center, 2 national engineering technology research centers, 3 national and local joint engineering research centers, 1 national applied mathematics center, 1 national industry-education integration platform, 1 frontier science center, 1 2011 national collaborative innovation center, 2 joint laboratories of international cooperation of the Ministry of Education, 14 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 7 engineering research centers of the Ministry of Education, 1 innovation center for basic medical research, and 1 joint laboratory of the Ministry of Science and Technology "Belt and Road". 39 postdoctoral research stations, 3 national liberal arts platforms, 2 Jiangsu Province key high-end think tanks, and 1 Jiangsu Province key cultivation think tank. Southeast University has a high-level faculty. The school currently has 3,371 full-time teachers, including 3,132 teachers with doctoral degrees, 2,535 teachers with senior and deputy senior professional titles; 1,739 doctoral supervisors and 3,322 master's supervisors. There are 16 academicians of the two academies, and about 600 outstanding talents with high moral character, high teaching level, strong scientific and technological innovation ability, and great global academic influence. Southeast University is deepening the strategy of strengthening the school with talents, deeply implementing the "No. 1 Project" of talent work, and accelerating the construction of a first-class faculty. Southeast University has an outstanding reputation for education and teaching. The school has always regarded talent training as the fundamental task of running a school. For more than a century, it has cultivated 390,000 outstanding talents of various types for the country and society, and a large number of elites have emerged. More than 200 academicians of the two academies have worked or studied at Southeast University. The school is one of the first national demonstration universities for innovation and entrepreneurship education reform, and the first batch of pilot universities for the comprehensive reform of "three-dimensional education" of the Ministry of Education. It was selected as one of the first batch of future technology colleges of the Ministry of Education (12 nationwide), and 3 bases of the Ministry of Education's basic disciplines outstanding student training plan 2.0. A total of 53 majors were selected as national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 9 majors were selected as provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 5 majors were selected as national comprehensive reform pilot projects, and 23 majors were selected as national characteristic major construction sites. There are 36 first-batch national quality resource sharing courses, 89 national first-class undergraduate courses, and 3 national course ideological and political demonstration courses. 14 national virtual simulation experimental teaching projects, 8 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, and 3 national virtual simulation experimental teaching centers. Since 2018, 51 people have been selected as members of the new National Teaching Steering Committee, including 3 chairpersons and 10 vice chairpersons. The school has built 12 national-level talent training model innovation experimental zones, 12 national-level engineering practice education centers, 11 teams selected as national-level teaching innovation teams, and 11 national-level virtual teaching and research room construction pilots. Southeast University has won the first prize of national teaching achievements for five consecutive sessions (every four years). In 2022, it won 10 awards as the first completing unit, including 1 first prize and 9 second prizes, and the total number of awards reached a historical high. Won 11 awards for the first national textbook construction (tied for ninth in the country). Southeast University insists on moral education in the new era, inherits fine traditions, reshapes talent training goals, and strives to cultivate leading talents with patriotism and international vision, who are responsible for leading the future and benefiting mankind. Southeast University is an important base for scientific and technological research and radiation in my country. The school adheres to the combination of industry, academia and research. In 2023, the research funds received 3.92 billion yuan, 3,217 Chinese invention patent applications were filed, and 1,885 Chinese invention patents were authorized. As of the end of December 2023, there were 14,739 valid invention patents, ranking third among universities in the country. The number of papers collected by SCI and EI ranks among the top universities in China. From 2011 to 2021, the school has won 33 national science and technology awards, including 1 first prize of the National Technological Invention Award in 2011, 1 first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2014, and 1 first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2020. In recent years, the school has participated in major national projects such as the "Lunar Exploration Program", "Three Gorges Project", "500-meter Aperture Radio Telescope", Beijing Sub-Center, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, high-speed rail technology, Antarctic scientific research, and wireless charging. In the past five years, it has won 21 awards for outstanding achievements in humanities and social sciences of higher education institutions from the Ministry of Education, including 2 first prizes. Southeast University National University Science and Technology Park was rated as an excellent national university science and technology park. At present, Southeast University is striving to create a high-level scientific and technological innovation pattern to better serve the country's major development strategies. Southeast University is one of the most active universities in my country in international exchanges and cooperation. By the end of 2023, the school has basically built an international cooperation network of world-class (high-level) universities, and has established close cooperative relations with more than 50 world-class universities and high-level research institutions from 20 countries or regions, including Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of California, Berkeley, University of Pennsylvania, University of British Columbia, University of Toronto, University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, University of Edinburgh, University of Birmingham, ETH Zurich, Royal Institute of Technology, Technical University of Munich, Paris, France...
