Suzhou Health Vocational and Technical College (hereinafter referred to as "the school") is a full-time public general higher vocational college under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province. Its predecessor was the Nursing School of Bosi Hospital founded in 1911. It has been deeply involved in the field of medical education for 113 years. As early as 1958, Suzhou Medical College was established. In 1996, it was the first batch of five-year health higher vocational education in the country. In 2005, it was upgraded to Suzhou Health Vocational and Technical College. It is the first exemplary higher vocational college in Jiangsu Province and the first high-level higher vocational school with Chinese characteristics in Jiangsu Province. The school is located in the ancient city of Suzhou, known as the "paradise on earth". The main campus is located on the bank of the beautiful Shihu Lake-Suzhou International Education Park (North District). The other two campuses are located in Shuyuan Lane in the ancient city of Suzhou and the ancient town of Mudu. The school covers a total area of 569,000 square meters (853.8 acres) and a construction area of 338,000 square meters. There are more than 10,000 full-time students, 850 faculty and staff, 571 full-time teachers, nearly 80% of full-time teachers have master's and doctoral degrees, nearly 40% have senior professional titles, and more than 90% have dual-qualified teachers. It has 2 national teaching achievement awards and 9 provincial teaching achievement awards. There are 16 members of the National Health Vocational Education Teaching Steering Committee (abbreviated as the Steering Committee) and its special committees and subcommittees, 2 national vocational college demonstration majors (health services), 1 of the first national vocational education teacher teaching innovation team, 1 Ministry of Education curriculum ideological and political demonstration course, 1 teaching master and team, 2 Jiangsu Province Excellent Science and Technology Innovation Teams, 6 Jiangsu Province Excellent Teaching Teams and Vocational Teaching Innovation Teams, 1 Jiangsu Vocational Education "Dual-qualified" Master Studio Construction Project, 1 Skills and Skills Inheritance and Innovation Platform Project, and 2 Jiangsu Province Teaching Masters. It has 2 vocational education training bases supported by the central government, 2 productive training bases recognized by the Ministry of Education, and 2 national "dual-qualified" teacher training bases. One collaborative innovation center has been recognized by the Ministry of Education, one project has been approved by the Engineering Research Center of the Jiangsu Provincial Development and Reform Commission, and one project has been completed and one project has been approved by the Engineering Technology Research and Development Center of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education. It has independently undertaken 5 National Natural Science Foundations and 3 Provincial Natural Science Foundations. It has completed 4 national online boutique courses for vocational education, and 6 national planning textbooks for vocational education in the "14th Five-Year Plan"; the first batch of 8 online boutique courses for vocational education in Jiangsu Province in the "14th Five-Year Plan" have been approved, and 9 textbooks have been selected for the first batch of vocational education planning textbooks in Jiangsu Province in the "14th Five-Year Plan". It has 2 excellent teaching teams in Suzhou, 3 innovative teaching teams in Suzhou, 1 excellent scientific and technological innovation team in Suzhou, 1 key laboratory in Suzhou, and 1 "dual-qualified" teacher training base in Suzhou. The school has 11 teaching institutions, including the School of Marxism, School of Clinical Medicine, School of Nursing (International Nursing School), School of Pharmacy, School of Public Health, School of Stomatology, School of Optometry, School of Health Management, Department of Basic Medicine, Department of Public Basics (College Student Quality Development Center), and Department of Physical Education. Focusing on the health and health industry, it has 22 majors, including clinical medicine, stomatology, preventive medicine, nursing, midwifery, elderly care and management, pharmacy, traditional Chinese medicine, Chinese pharmacy, medical laboratory technology, medical biotechnology, medical imaging technology, oral medicine technology, health inspection and quarantine technology, optometry technology, rehabilitation therapy technology, health information management, medical nutrition, big data and accounting, hotel management and digital operation, health management, and production and processing of Chinese medicinal materials. Nursing, pharmacy, and medical laboratory technology are key majors supported by the central government, and nursing, pharmacy, medical laboratory technology, oral medicine technology, and optometry technology are key majors recognized by the Ministry of Education. Nursing professional group and medical laboratory technology professional group are high-level professional groups of higher vocational education in Jiangsu Province. The school is the chairman unit of the Nursing Special Committee of the National Health and Health Vocational Education and Teaching Steering Committee, the chairman unit of the Public Health and Health Management Special Committee of the National Health and Health Vocational Education and Teaching Steering Committee, the secretariat unit of the Jiangsu Health and Health Vocational Education Industry Steering Committee, the chairman unit of the Jiangsu Medical and Health Vocational Education Group, and the affiliated unit of the Jiangsu Health Vocational Education Research Office. It is the national nurse qualification examination question setting base and the national health professional technical qualification examination question development base. It is the leader unit of the health and public service cooperation group of the Jiangsu Province 1+X certificate system pilot work, and it is also the first training base for elderly nursing teachers in the province. It takes the lead in formulating national professional teaching standards such as nursing, medical nutrition, medical laboratory technology, and optometry technology, and takes the lead in building a modern health vocational education system with through training in the country. There are more than 80 stable tertiary-level A-level internship hospitals and more than 300 internship training bases outside the school, which provide good conditions for students' clinical internships and internships. It maintains good cooperative relations with relevant colleges and universities in Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, the Netherlands, the United States and other countries. The school firmly grasps the development direction of health care and health industry, and the professional structure layout is closely aligned with the needs of regional economic and social development. 60% of the majors are high-level majors (groups) at the provincial level or above. The enrollment and employment show a gratifying trend of "strong import and smooth export", and a group of successful models have emerged, including the National Advanced Individuals in Fighting the COVID-19 Epidemic and the Provincial May 1st Labor Medal winners. In the past five years, students have won 50 second prizes or above in national skill competitions, and the number of first prizes ranks among the top similar colleges in the country. The school has won the first prize in the comprehensive target assessment of the Jiangsu Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission for 15 consecutive years.
