Suzhou University of Science and Technology is located in Suzhou, a historical and cultural city with rich cultural heritage and long cultural heritage. It was formed by the merger of the former Suzhou Urban Construction and Environmental Protection College and the former Suzhou Railway Normal College. It is a full-time general university with engineering as the main subject and coordinated development of multiple disciplines including engineering, science, liberal arts, management and art. It is a university jointly built by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and Jiangsu Province, an excellent university in the undergraduate teaching work level assessment of the Ministry of Education, and a construction unit for the project of doctoral degree awarding in Jiangsu Province. The school has three campuses: Shihu, Jiangfeng, and Tianping. The main campus, Shihu Campus, is adjacent to Shihu Water and sits on Shangfang Mountain. It has a beautiful environment and picturesque scenery. The campus covers an area of 2,300 acres. There are nearly 22,000 full-time undergraduate students and more than 3,600 graduate students (including international master's students). The school currently has 16 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees and 16 master's professional degree authorization categories. Four disciplines, including "Engineering", "Chemistry", "Materials Science" and "Environmental Ecology", entered the top 1% of ESI, among which "Engineering" entered the top 5‰ of ESI globally; 9 Jiangsu Province advantage/key disciplines, among which Urban and Rural Planning, Environmental Science and Engineering, and Civil Engineering have been selected as Jiangsu Province's advantage disciplines for 4 consecutive periods, and have been listed in the "China Ranking of the Best Disciplines by Soft Science" for 6 consecutive years. Among the 65 undergraduate majors, 19 majors were selected as national first-class undergraduate major construction sites; 20 majors were selected as Jiangsu University Brand Major Construction Project; 10 majors passed the higher education professional evaluation (certification), engineering education professional certification, and the second-level certification of teacher training majors. The school has 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 2 foreign academicians, more than 50 people selected for national talent projects such as the winner of the National "Outstanding Youth", the winner of the Wu Yuzhang Humanities and Social Sciences Award, and the "Changjiang Scholars" Distinguished Professor; more than 500 people selected for various provincial talent projects including the second level of the provincial "333 Project"; 13 teams at or above the provincial and ministerial levels; more than 810 teachers with senior professional and technical positions, more than 1,040 teachers with doctoral degrees; currently there are 734 master's supervisors, and 52 teachers are employed as doctoral supervisors in double first-class universities. The school has won 1 first prize and 4 second prizes in the national teaching achievement award, and won more than 40 provincial teaching achievement awards such as the provincial teaching achievement special prize and the provincial graduate training model reform achievement first prize. Won the gold medal of the "Golden Bell Award" (Chorus), the highest award in Chinese music, and the "Mountain Flower Award", the highest award in Chinese folk art. There are currently 1 national college student cultural quality education base, 1 national college student science and technology entrepreneurship internship base, and 1 national off-campus practical education base. In recent years, students of Suzhou University of Science and Technology have won more than 600 awards in the national general college discipline competition rankings every year, and have repeatedly achieved good results in various domestic and international competitions such as the China International College Student Innovation Competition, the "Challenge Cup" National College Student Extracurricular Academic and Scientific Works Competition and the Entrepreneurship Plan Competition. The school has been awarded A grade in the provincial comprehensive evaluation of graduate education and the quantitative supervision and assessment of employment of provincial college graduates for four consecutive years. Since its establishment, it has trained more than 200,000 graduates of various types represented by Zhou Xiyuan and Ye Keming, academicians of the two academies, for the country. The school is known as the incubation base for planners, the cradle for engineers, and the training center for basic education backbones. The school currently has 30 scientific research platforms at or above the provincial level, including the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center, Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory, and Jiangsu Provincial Key Research Base for Philosophy and Social Sciences. Teachers have won 4 National Science and Technology Progress Awards and have continuously presided over major projects such as the 863 Program, the National Key R&D Program, and the National Major Science and Technology Project. In the past five years, it has won 257 national projects (9 major key projects such as the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund) and 68 provincial and ministerial scientific research achievement awards (18 first prizes). 13 papers in international top journals such as Nature and 91 ESI highly cited papers have been published. Four teachers have been selected as "Highly Cited Scientists" by Clarivate Analytics and "Highly Cited Scholars in China" by Elsevier. The school focuses on the country's major strategic needs and economic and social development needs, and actively carries out theoretical research and technical breakthroughs. He presided over the drafting of the first local regulations on the protection of national historical and cultural cities in China; participated in the protection of Suzhou Pingjiang Historical and Cultural District, and won the "UNESCO Asia-Pacific Cultural Heritage Protection Honor Award"; school teachers led the overall planning of Suzhou Industrial Park, helping Suzhou win the only "Lee Kuan Yew World City Award" in China, and undertook the planning of Ethiopia's new city, becoming a model of "Chinese experience" contributing to the "Belt and Road"; jointly built the Suzhou Rural Revitalization Research Institute, and jointly developed the first agricultural and rural modernization evaluation system in China. Create an urban water body evaluation system and urban river and lake coordinated restoration technology, which will benefit cities in the Yangtze River Delta and radiate the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Take the lead in the construction of complex underground spaces in the soft soil built-up areas of southern Jiangsu, and the key technologies for disaster prevention of large and complex structures have been successfully applied to major projects such as the Winter Olympics venues. The Urban Development Think Tank was selected into the Top 100 University Think Tanks List of the China Think Tank Index (CTTI) in 2022. The Yangtze River Delta Integrated Development Research Base is a key research base for decision-making consultation in Jiangsu Province. The school has established inter-school cooperation with more than 90 universities and research institutions in more than 20 countries and regions. Since 1993, it has hosted the Foreign Aid Human Resources Training Course sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce every year, and has provided training and academic education for more than 2,000 officials and technicians in the fields of environmental protection, energy and logistics in more than 120 countries along the Belt and Road and developing countries. In 2015, it became one of the first universities in the country to undertake foreign aid master's degree education projects. It was approved for three provincial "14th Five-Year Plan" education opening-up quality improvement projects and was selected into the "China-Belarus International Education Cooperation Alliance" and other alliances.
