Suzhou Vocational University is a municipal public higher vocational college approved by the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government in 1981. It is a high-level higher vocational school with Chinese characteristics in Jiangsu Province. The school was formerly Suzhou Industrial College founded in 1911 and Jiangsu Provincial Second Women's Normal School in 1912. The school firmly grasps the direction of socialist education, adheres to the school motto of "diligence, courage, loyalty and trust", does not forget the original intention of cultivating people with morality, keeps in mind the mission of educating people for the party and cultivating talents for the country, and strives to achieve teachers and students. The school insists on quality first, firm and precise development, and promotes the coordinated innovation, integration and win-win of school development and local economic and social development. The school currently has four campuses: Shihu, Ganjiang Road, Lishe Nong, and Zhujiayuan. There are 12 colleges (departments), covering 51 majors in major categories such as electronics and information, equipment manufacturing, finance and trade, culture and art, education and sports, and more than 15,000 full-time students. There are 877 full-time teachers, including 71 senior professional titles, 379 associate senior professional titles and above, and 86.2% of teachers have master's degrees or above. There are 83 high-level talents at the provincial level and above, including 2 people who enjoy special government allowances from the State Council, 1 person who has won the Huang Yanpei Vocational Education Award for Outstanding Principal, 1 person who is a training target for famous teachers (masters) and principals of new-era vocational schools, 1 leader of the Huang Danian-style teacher team in colleges and universities, 1 national technical expert, 2 people who are trained as the "Six Talent Peaks" of the province, 20 people who are trained as the "333 High-level Talent Training Project" of the province, 51 people who are trained as the "Blue and Green Project" of the province, 1 provincial teaching master, and 10 provincial excellent teaching and research teams. The school takes it as its mission to cultivate high-quality technical and skilled talents for the high-end of the industry, focuses on the development priorities of local industries and the social demand for scarce talents, and deeply promotes education and teaching reforms to create talent training characteristics. There are 3 key majors and teaching reform pilot majors of the Ministry of Education, 2 high-level professional groups of provincial higher vocational colleges, 1 Class A project of the first phase of the provincial college brand professional construction project, 3 provincial high-level backbone majors, and 9 provincial brand specialty majors. He presided over the construction of a national vocational education professional teaching resource library, approved 2 national online boutique courses, 11 "14th Five-Year Plan" national planning textbooks for vocational education, and selected 1 typical case of the Ministry of Education's vocational education demonstration virtual simulation training base. There are 2 provincial professional teaching resource libraries and 16 provincial online boutique courses. Won 1 national first prize and 1 second prize in the teaching ability competition; 1 first prize and 1 second prize in the national teaching achievement award; won 2 national first prizes, 11 second and third prizes, and 41 provincial first prizes in the vocational college skills competition. The results of the skills competition are among the best in the province's higher vocational colleges. The school vigorously expands school-enterprise cooperation, and has built 319 on-campus practical teaching sites integrating teaching, training and services, including 1 vocational education training base construction project of the Ministry of Education and 5 provincial training bases; cooperates with local governments in talent training, technical services, cultural research, etc., and cooperates with Shanghai Huaxia Economic Development Research Institute, Shanghai Jiaotong University Suzhou Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, Tongji Artificial Intelligence Suzhou Research Institute, Jiangsu Yangtze River Industrial Economics Research Institute and other large institutes in 10 projects; jointly with Fudan University and Changdian Technology to lead the establishment of the "National Advanced Semiconductor Industry Industry-Education Integration Community"; take the lead in establishing the "Suzhou Wuzhong Economic and Technological Development Zone Robot and Intelligent Manufacturing Industry-Education Integration Body", which was selected as the first batch of national industry-education consortiums; take the lead in establishing Suzhou Modern Equipment Manufacturing, Modern Optoelectronics, Artificial Intelligence, Mechanical Industry Intelligent Robots 4 Vocational Education Groups, and jointly build 29 enterprise (industry, industry) colleges with Suzhou leading enterprises and industry organizations, and list 361 off-campus training bases. The school actively serves the local economic and social development, and has established research institutes such as the Wu Culture Inheritance and Innovation Research Center, the Grand Canal (Jiangsu Section) Cultural and Tourism Integration Research Collaborative Innovation Base, and the Shihu Think Tank. It provides decision-making consultation and undertakes research projects for local economic construction, government decision-making, and industry and enterprise development in many fields, and has made important contributions to the inheritance and protection of Wu culture, the inheritance and innovation of silk craftsmanship, the restoration and reconstruction of Suzhou Ancient City Wall, the evaluation of urban tourism competitiveness, and the development of industrial economy. Shihu Think Tank has passed the 4A-level assessment of the "China Social Organization Assessment Level", and was selected into the list of source think tanks of the China Think Tank Index (CTTI). It won the 2023 CTTI Think Tank Construction Best Case and Outstanding Achievement Award, and is the only think tank of a higher vocational college to be selected. The school continues to create higher continuing education with better quality, greater social contribution, and higher public recognition. It has built a national universal digital literacy and skills training base, a Jiangsu Provincial College Silver Age Learning Center, and a Suzhou Social Education Guidance Service Center, etc., with an average of more than 30,000 social special training subjects per year. Focusing on serving lifelong learning for all, it has created the "Smart Learning Suzhou" smart education equity service platform, Suzhou citizen learning map, and digital rural service resource pool. In the past five years, elderly education and community education projects have benefited more than 6 million citizens. The indicators of universal learning rank first in the province, and the coverage rate of lifelong learning for citizens exceeds 90%. There are currently 3 Sino-foreign cooperative education projects. The Sino-Australian mechatronics technology and accounting professional projects are high-level demonstration projects for Sino-foreign cooperative education in Jiangsu universities. It has been selected into provincial brand projects such as Jiangsu Foreign Students Talent Program, Jiangsu-Germany Vocational Education Cooperation Alliance, and the "14th Five-Year Plan" Jiangsu University International Talent Training Major. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Cultural Exchange Center, Southeast Asia Vocational Education Industry-Education Integration Alliance, South Africa Hengtong Intelligent Manufacturing College, Malaysia Industrial Robot College, and Holmesglen College Suzhou Development Center were established. It was elected as the vice chairman unit of the Internationalization Collaborative Development Community of Vocational Education, and was approved by the Zheng He College Project of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education to carry out Sino-foreign vocational education exchanges. It was rated A in the comprehensive evaluation of the high-quality development of foreign cooperation and exchanges of Jiangsu universities.
