Suzhou Vocational and Technical College is located in Suzhou High-tech Zone, which borders Jiangsu, Shandong, Henan and Anhui provinces. The college was formerly Anhui Suxian Agricultural School. It was founded in February 1950. In 1980, it was identified as a national key technical secondary school by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries. In 2000, it was approved as the first batch of national key technical secondary schools. In 2001, it was upgraded to a higher vocational college. In 2007, Suzhou Education College was incorporated. In 2021, it was rated as a pilot university for the comprehensive reform of "three-dimensional education" in Anhui Province. In 2022, it was approved as a construction unit of Anhui Province's high-level skill-based universities. In August 2023, it was approved for the construction of a high-level professional group of veterinary medicine. The college currently has 330 faculty and staff, including 300 full-time teachers, 14 professors, 72 associate professors, 199 masters and above, and 27 provincial professional leaders and teaching masters. The college covers an area of 750 acres, with a school building of 196,000 square meters and 1.789 million books and materials. There are 7 teaching departments (departments) including the Department of Agronomy and Animal Science, the Department of Economic Management, the Department of Computer Information, the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the Department of Education, the Department of Ideological and Political Education, and the Department of Basic Education, as well as 1 Higher Adult Education College, 2 vocational skill appraisal stations for special types of work, and 1 Mandarin proficiency test station. 38 majors are offered, including garden technology, veterinary medicine, new energy vehicle technology, automobile inspection and maintenance technology, industrial robot technology, computer network technology, and primary education. There are 13,863 full-time students of various types. The college has jointly carried out undergraduate education for students with many undergraduate colleges such as Anhui Agricultural University, and made every effort to help graduates enter undergraduate colleges for further studies. The quality of school operation and service capabilities are constantly improving, showing a good development trend. The college is now the first batch of national modern youth farmer training demonstration bases, the first batch of national new professional farmers training demonstration bases, the Ministry of Agriculture's modern agricultural technology training base and farmers' professional cooperative training base, Anhui Province's secondary vocational backbone teacher agriculture, forestry and animal husbandry training base, and Anhui Province's farmer entrepreneurship training base. Since 2018, it has won the honorary titles of pilot colleges of the Ministry of Education's New Business Smart Learning Factory Project, advanced collective of mechanical industry talent evaluation, Sino-German advanced vocational education cooperation project college, Anhui Provincial Civilized Unit, Anhui Provincial Advanced Health Work Unit, and Anhui Province's first batch of water-saving colleges. Since 2020, the college has seized development opportunities, accelerated the construction of campus infrastructure and supporting functions, and introduced the first Tmall campus store in Anhui Province and the first postal service center in Suzhou City through school-enterprise cooperation, opened the third canteen, and provided students with quality services. In 2020, the college successfully applied for the first phase of the government's non-standard special bonds of 120 million yuan, built 2 standardized student dormitories, 1 education training building, and 1 comprehensive gymnasium; self-raised funds built 1 student dormitory. In 2022, the second phase of the government non-standard special bonds of 190 million yuan were successfully applied for. The three units of agricultural science and education base, college student innovation and entrepreneurship center and comprehensive teaching building are planned to be built. Construction will start in February 2023 and will be completed and put into use in 12 months. By then, it will effectively improve the conditions for running schools and enhance service functions.
