Tangshan University is located in Tangshan City, Hebei Province, the cradle of modern Chinese industry and known as the "Jingdong Treasure Land". It is a public full-time general undergraduate college with engineering as its main discipline and coordinated and integrated development of multiple disciplines such as engineering, economics, management, literature, law, and art. Founded in 1956, the school was formerly Tangshan Industrial Night University established in the former Tangshan Railway Institute (now Southwest Jiaotong University). In 1985, Southwest Jiaotong University provided intellectual support to Tangshan and established Tangshan Branch. In 1996, it began to jointly run undergraduate majors with Southwest Jiaotong University, and has trained 8 batches of graduates. The expert group of Southwest Jiaotong University is still playing a role. In 2002, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Tangshan College, Tangshan Branch of Southwest Jiaotong University, and Tangshan Workers University were essentially merged to form an undergraduate-level general college-Tangshan College. In December 2014, with the approval of the People's Government of Hebei Province, the Tangshan Branch of Hebei University of Science and Technology was substantially merged into Tangshan College. In January 2015, with the approval of Tangshan Municipal People's Government, Tangshan School of Foreign Economics and Trade was substantially merged into Tangshan College. The school currently has three campuses: University West Road (East Campus, South Campus, North Campus), Huayan North Road, and Longze Road, covering an area of 1,049 acres and a school building area of 680,000 square meters. It has 18 teaching units including the School of Intelligent and Information Engineering and the School of Civil Engineering, 14 party and government management agencies and 7 auxiliary teaching institutions including the library, journal editorial department, and Institute of Higher Education Development. It has teaching instruments and equipment with a total value of 200 million yuan, a collection of 1.59 million books, 1,357 paper journals, 2.18 million electronic books, and 160,000 electronic journals. It offers 52 undergraduate majors and 2 Sino-foreign cooperative education projects. The professional settings are highly consistent with Tangshan's eight "14th Five-Year Plan" key development industries, including fine steel, green chemicals, green building materials, high-end equipment manufacturing, new energy, energy conservation and environmental protection, marine industry, and information intelligence. There are more than 19,000 ordinary full-time undergraduate students and nearly 9,000 adult education students. 1,049 acres - the school covers an area of 19 - 3 teaching units - 13 provincial key laboratories - 52 municipal key laboratories - 2 undergraduate majors - Sino-foreign cooperative undergraduate majors. In recent years, five teaching teams including engineering drawing, accounting, municipal engineering, intermediate financial accounting, soil mechanics and basic engineering have been approved as "Hebei Province Excellent Teaching Team", and Li Yali, Zhou Hongxing, Zhao Zhiwei, and Maria have been approved as "Hebei Province Teaching Masters". The school has 40 scientific and technological innovation teams, 283 scientific and technological commissioners, 3 specialized and new "little giant" enterprise science and technology commissioners and 1 provincial modern industrial college; there are currently 3 provincial key discipline laboratories, 2 provincial applied technology research and development centers, 13 municipal key laboratories, 8 municipal innovation teams and 9 municipal enterprise clinics. The Tangshan Industry-Education Integration Development Research Center was officially established in the school in July 2023. Through the theoretical and practical innovation research on the development strategy of industry-education integration, it strives to create a high-end think tank that leads and supports the construction and development of the pilot city of industry-education integration in Tangshan. Relying on the Tangshan Industry-Education Integration Development Research Center, the school has fully carried out in-depth docking between schools, enterprises and local governments with 18 counties, cities and development zones in Tangshan, and signed strategic cooperation agreements or reached cooperation intentions. At the same time, it has signed technology research and development service contracts with more than 100 companies. The school has established a public service platform for graphene application technology in Tangshan City. The research scope covers many fields such as chemical industry, environmental protection, building materials, energy, etc., and provides shared services for the research of graphene materials in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, the development of graphene products, the testing of graphene finished products, and the development and application of other new materials. Its academic influence continues to expand. Among them, the column "Li Dazhao and the History of the Communist Party of China" was rated as "National Local University Academic Column" in 2018 and "National University Social Science Journal Featured Column" in 2019. Since 1992, it has been named "Civilized Unit" by the Hebei Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the People's Government of Hebei Province 13 times, and won the honorary title of "Tangshan City 2018-2020 Civilized Campus" in 2021.
