The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was established in 1963. It is a comprehensive research university with the mission of "combining tradition and modernity, integrating China and the West". CUHK has a long-term mission. CUHK students and teachers come from all over the world. We also have a large local and overseas alumni organization to connect CUHK graduates around the world. High-quality teaching CUHK is the leading university in Hong Kong and even in Asia. The purpose of our university is to cultivate talents with both specialized knowledge and worldly wisdom. The characteristics of our university include a flexible credit system, a college system, a balance of Chinese and English, and multiculturalism; and a special general education is set up to broaden students' horizons and cultivate comprehensive thinking ability, so that students can reflect on themselves and look outside in the ever-changing modern society, become outstanding leaders, and contribute to society. CUHK's eight colleges offer a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Research reputation CUHK's research projects are all-encompassing and cover all disciplines. The school also gives faculty members the freedom to provide consulting services or collaborate with the industry. Under strict self-requirements, the university's research has always maintained a high standard and is becoming more and more famous. The Hong Kong University Grants Committee (UGC) has selected 32 areas of excellence to concentrate resources to fund local universities to conduct research, 11 of which are led by scholars from CUHK. Currently, CUHK has five state key laboratories approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, with world-class research capabilities to complete the scientific research tasks assigned by the country. In terms of publishing research results, CUHK has made remarkable achievements. Whether in journals in specialized fields or in journals that are familiar to the general public, such as Nature, Science, and The Lancet, articles by CUHK scholars can be seen. Unique College System The college system is a feature of CUHK and is unique among universities in Hong Kong. The existing member colleges include Chung Chi College, New Asia College, United College and Shaw College, and the newly added Morningside College, S.H.I.C. College, King's College, Wu Yee Sun College and Lee Woo Sing College. They complement the university, provide student-centered holistic education and caring counseling, strengthen exchanges and interactions between teachers and students, and consolidate students' sense of belonging to the college and their alma mater. Campus Environment The large campus covers an area of 138.4 hectares, overlooking Tolo Harbour. It is the largest and greenest campus in Hong Kong. To meet the needs of study and life, the school has complete facilities, including a first-class library, a museum, a concert hall, a swimming pool, a sports field, tennis courts, squash courts, a water sports center and a fitness room.
