Tianjin Agricultural College was founded in 1976. It is a municipal general undergraduate college with the basic orientation of serving the "three rural issues" and cultivating high-quality applied talents. In 2001, Tianjin Urban and Rural Economic School was merged into the college. In 2006, it was approved as a master's degree awarding institution. In 1996, it was the first batch to pass the undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation of the Ministry of Education, and in 2007, it was awarded "excellent" in the undergraduate teaching level evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Education. The school takes agricultural science as the main body, and agronomy, engineering, management, science, economics, literature, and art develop in a coordinated manner. After years of school-running practice, it has formed a distinctive school-running feature of keeping close to regional economic and social development and serving modern urban agriculture. The school currently has three campuses, with a campus area of 1,370 acres and a school building area of 470,000 square meters. It has modern teaching buildings, laboratory buildings, libraries, network centers, sports stadiums and other facilities. There are currently 15,000 students on campus. The university takes discipline construction as the leader and improving the quality of talent training as the center, and vigorously implements the development strategy of "quality-based university, talent-based university, characteristic-based university, and culture-based university". There are 15 colleges (departments), 7 disciplines, 48 undergraduate majors and professional directions; there are 9 first-level academic master's degree authorization points and 4 master's professional degree authorization points. There is 1 Tianjin first-class discipline, 4 Tianjin key disciplines, 5 Tianjin characteristic discipline groups, 2 Tianjin university service industry characteristic discipline groups, 1 national off-campus practical education base for college students, 6 national first-class undergraduate professional construction points, 17 provincial first-class undergraduate professional construction points; 4 national first-class undergraduate construction courses, 27 Tianjin first-class undergraduate construction courses. 6 "Science and Technology Small Courtyards" have been supported by the state. In the past two sessions, the school won 1 second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award, 5 first prizes and 14 second prizes of the Tianjin Teaching Achievement Award. The school actively adapts to the needs of regional economic and social development and the development of modern urban agriculture, reasonably adjusts the curriculum system, and gradually forms a relatively reasonable professional ecological group to support the development of modern agriculture; under the background of popular education, it is rooted in the land of Jingu and insists on the path of combining production, learning and research. The simple, down-to-earth, hard-working and hard-working character of Tiannong graduates has been recognized by the society, and "going down, getting started quickly, being useful and staying" has become the consensus of employers on Tiannong students. A large number of well-known agricultural science and technology talents, education experts, outstanding management experts and leading cadres at home and abroad have emerged among the graduates. In 2021, it was selected as the "Excellent School for Rural Revitalization Talent Training" recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Education. In 2023, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs evaluated the implementation of the "Head Goose" project for cultivating 42 rural industry revitalization leaders in 2022, and our school ranked fourth. The school vigorously implements the "talent-strengthening school" strategy and has built a high-level teaching and research team. There are more than 1,000 faculty and staff, including 2 dual-appointed academicians, 20 experts with special government allowances from the State Council, 10 national talents, and 54 provincial and ministerial talents. There is 1 national outstanding teacher, 1 national advanced individual in poverty alleviation, 1 national expert team, 14 Tianjin-level teaching teams, 12 Tianjin-level teaching masters, and 11 Tianjin-level innovation teams. The school insists on promoting teaching with scientific research, and its academic level continues to improve. The school pays attention to the construction of disciplinary innovation platforms, and has built 40 interdisciplinary, cross-regional, and multi-level provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms, including the Key Laboratory of Smart Breeding of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (co-built by the Ministry and the Province), the Key Laboratory of Intelligent Breeding of Major Crops in Tianjin, the Key Laboratory of Aquatic Ecology and Breeding in Tianjin, and the Key Laboratory of Agricultural Animal Breeding and Healthy Breeding in Tianjin. In recent years, the school has been successively recognized as the Tianjin Rural Modernization Research Center, the Tianjin Municipal Science Popularization Base, the Tianjin Municipal Intelligence Base and Intelligence Work Demonstration Unit, and the Tianjin University Think Tank. In addition, 28 industry-university-research consortia have been established, and 11 enterprises have jointly built the Tianjin Enterprise Key Laboratory. In the past five years, the university has undertaken more than 1,000 scientific and technological projects of various levels and types, including 68 national projects and 340 provincial and ministerial projects. Two achievements won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. 40 achievements have won provincial and ministerial awards, including 1 first prize of the Natural Science Award of the Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement Award of Higher Education Institutions (Science and Technology), 1 first prize of the National Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Harvest Award, 3 first prizes of the Shennong Chinese Agricultural Science and Technology Award for Scientific Research Achievements, and 4 first prizes of Tianjin Science and Technology Progress. As a public publication, the Journal of Tianjin Agricultural College has been rated as a national excellent agricultural journal and a first-level journal in Tianjin many times, and has been listed as an important source of agricultural publications by many domestic and foreign databases. In 2019, the school was commended by the Ministry of Science and Technology as the organization and implementation unit of the science and technology commissioner. The school takes the creation of a civilized campus as a starting point to promote the construction of the "Siyuan" culture and promote the all-round development of students' morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor. The school holds a campus cultural festival every year, and strives to create brand activities such as Tiannong Celebrity Lecture Hall and "Siyuan" Volunteer Service. It has set up cultural teams such as the "Siyuan" Theory Propaganda Group, Chorus, and Practice Group, and organized Chinese Excellent Traditional Culture Competition, "Siyuan" Singing Contest, "Siyuan" Film Ideological and Political Course, Sports Meeting, Painting and Calligraphy Photography Exhibition and other activities. It uses various online and offline publicity media to carry out thematic publicity on major festivals such as the founding of the Party and National Day. The school won the honorary title of "Tianjin Civilized Campus in 2018-2020". The school actively expands international exchanges and cooperation, carries out Sino-foreign cooperative education, and continuously improves the level of open education.
