Tianjin University of Commerce, formerly known as Tianjin Business College, was founded in 1980 by the Ministry of Commerce and the Tianjin Municipal People's Government. In 1998, the school implemented a management system of co-construction by the central and local governments and local management as the main body. In 2007, the school was renamed Tianjin University of Commerce. The school is located at No. 409, Guangrong Road, Beichen District, Tianjin, covering an area of nearly 1,340 acres, with a building area of nearly 510,000 square meters, and a total value of 571 million yuan in teaching and scientific research equipment. The library currently has 2.24 million Chinese and foreign books, 66 Chinese and foreign databases, and 4.1885 million electronic books. The school has more than 23,000 students, and has 13 professional colleges including the School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Economics, School of Management, School of Accounting, School of Biotechnology and Food Science, School of Law, School of Public Administration, School of Marxism, School of Foreign Languages, School of Science, School of Information Engineering, School of International Education Cooperation, and School of Art, as well as three teaching departments including the University Foreign Language Teaching Department, Basic Course Teaching Department, and Physical Education Teaching Department, and the College of Higher Vocational and Continuing Education. There are 59 undergraduate majors (directions), 11 first-level master's degree-granting disciplines, and 12 professional master's degree categories. The school has the qualification to recommend outstanding undergraduate graduates to pursue postgraduate studies without examination, as well as the qualification to recruit postgraduates from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and the right to apply for master's degrees for people with equivalent academic qualifications. The school insists on taking discipline construction as the leader, and the disciplines such as economics, management, engineering, law, literature, science, and art develop in a coordinated manner and support each other, with distinctive business characteristics. The disciplines of power engineering and engineering thermal physics were selected into the list of first-class disciplines in Tianjin, and the disciplines of cold chain logistics and modern service industry were selected into the list of characteristic disciplines in Tianjin. The cold chain energy system is a characteristic discipline group for the service industry of Tianjin universities. The school currently has 7 municipal key disciplines, 1 engineering research center of the Ministry of Education, 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (co-built by the ministry and the province), 1 Tianjin Engineering Center, 2 Tianjin Key Laboratories, 1 Tianjin "Belt and Road" Joint Laboratory, 2 International Joint Research Centers, 2 Tianjin Key Research Bases for Humanities and Social Sciences, 2 Tianjin University Think Tanks, and cross-innovation platforms such as the "Dual Carbon Research Institute" and the "Digital Economy and Green Development Research Center". The school insists on cultivating compound application-oriented innovative and entrepreneurial talents with a high sense of social responsibility and profound business literacy, and has established an innovative and entrepreneurial education system of "awareness, knowledge, ability, and experience". It was selected as the first batch of "National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Practice Base" construction units. The school has been approved for 13 national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 11 Tianjin first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 3 national first-class undergraduate courses, and 31 Tianjin first-class undergraduate courses. It has 1 national-level boutique resource sharing course and 16 municipal-level boutique courses. There are 4 national specialty majors, 11 Tianjin brand majors, 5 Tianjin strategic emerging industry related majors, 8 majors are Tianjin advantage specialty construction projects, and 12 majors are Tianjin application specialty construction projects. Finance major is a national professional comprehensive reform pilot major, Food Science and Engineering major is the first batch of national excellent agricultural and forestry talent education and training plan reform pilot majors, Energy and Power Engineering major is a Tianjin comprehensive reform pilot major and Tianjin "Excellent Engineer Talent Training" pilot major. The school has built a national talent training model innovation experimental zone for "International Hotel Management", a base for excellent talent training in China's tourism and hotel industry, and a national off-campus practice education base for college students "Tianjin Commercial University-Yantai Binglun Co., Ltd. Engineering Practice Education Center". There are 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 10 Tianjin municipal experimental teaching demonstration centers (including construction units), 1 Tianjin municipal virtual simulation experimental teaching center, and 1 Tianjin A-level (excellent) college maker space. One person has received special funding for the Tianjin "Project + Team" key training. There are 2 Tianjin "131" innovative talent training teams, 5 Tianjin higher education innovation teams, and 13 part-time doctoral supervisors. The school adheres to international development and promotes international exchanges and cooperation. It has established close partnerships with more than 30 universities in the United States, Britain, Russia, Australia, Canada, France, Japan, South Korea, Romania, Poland and other countries, and carried out various forms of cooperation and exchanges. It has carried out cooperative education at the undergraduate and master's level with Florida International University, Charles Sturt University, Australia, Eastern Michigan University and other schools. The cooperative education project has successfully passed the evaluation of Sino-foreign cooperative education projects of the Ministry of Education. The hotel management (Sino-US cooperation) major was rated as the first in the hotel management major in the Chinese university undergraduate education major rankings in 2014-2015, 2017-2018, and 2022-2023 by the China Science Evaluation Research Center of Wuhan University and the China Science and Education Evaluation Network.
