Tianjin University of Media and Communication was founded in 2004. It is a general undergraduate college with the main orientation of cultivating talents in media and art. In February 2021, with the approval of the Tianjin Municipal People's Government and the Ministry of Education, it was renamed Tianjin University of Media and Communication. The school is located at the foot of Panshan, a national 5A-level tourist attraction, and is located in the one-hour living circle of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei. At present, the campus covers an area of 700 acres, and the school building area has been built to nearly 150,000 square meters, with a planned building area of 240,000 square meters. The school adheres to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, fully implements the party's education policy, adheres to the socialist direction of running schools and the principle of public welfare of education; implements the fundamental task of establishing morality and cultivating people; upholds the school motto of "cultivating morality, nurturing wisdom, refining art, and perfection", actively adapts to the development needs of the cultural industry, and cultivates media and art professionals with comprehensive development of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor, and strong professional practical ability and innovative spirit. The university consists of eight colleges and two departments: the School of Film and Television, the School of Broadcasting and Hosting Arts, the School of Drama, the School of Music, the School of Dance, the School of Animation and Digital Media, the School of Journalism and Cultural Communication, and the School of Continuing Education; the Department of Ideological and Political Theory Courses, and the Department of Basic Courses. At present, a discipline and professional system with film and television media as the main body and art as the feature has been established, forming a pattern of "one body and two wings" supporting each other between media and art; 20 undergraduate majors have been opened, covering multiple disciplines such as art, literature, management, education, and engineering, with an annual enrollment of more than 2,800 people and more than 8,100 students on campus. Students who have completed their studies and passed the exams and meet the graduation requirements will be awarded a graduation certificate from Tianjin University of Media; those who meet the conditions for the award of a bachelor's degree will be awarded a bachelor's degree certificate from Tianjin University of Media. The school has a faculty team with a reasonable structure, outstanding professionalism, strong sense of responsibility, and a combination of full-time and part-time positions. There are more than 380 full-time teachers, of which about 35% have senior professional and technical positions such as professors and associate professors; and more than 60% have doctoral and master's degrees. The school implements the "Panshan Scholars" discipline leader introduction project, and specially invites domestic high-level and high-level experts and scholars to teach at the school. At present, 25 experts and scholars have signed contracts and been hired. They are distributed in the seven colleges and two departments of the school, covering most of the school's disciplines and majors. The school has built four major practical teaching platforms, namely the "Comprehensive Experimental Area for Radio, Film and Television Arts", the "Comprehensive Experimental Area for Stage Arts", the "Comprehensive Experimental Area for Visual Arts" and the "Comprehensive Experimental Area for Digital Arts", including radio live broadcast studios, film and television dubbing studios, TV virtual studios, TV director's studios and director's car systems, film and television review halls and other digital radio, film and television media laboratories, as well as art language laboratories, variety show rehearsal halls, news studios, documentary studios, Apple workstations, indoor drama studios, music recording studios, and film and television program post-editing rooms; large-scale stage synthesis theaters, small and medium-sized music theaters, black box experimental theaters, 280 standard piano rooms, MIDI studios, electric piano studios; practical teaching facilities such as 3D animation studios, 2D hand-painted laboratories, stop-motion animation laboratories, digital media studios, comics production laboratories, illustration studios, etc., providing students with first-class professional practice space and equipment, fully meeting the practical teaching needs of various media and art majors. The school has established cooperative relations with many media, film and television institutions, and cultural industry companies, and has co-produced 56 film and television dramas and micro-films. It has participated in the rehearsal of the National Art Fund project - the large-scale original musical "Love of the Heaven and Earth Canal", and has undertaken large-scale song and dance performances such as "The World Panshan", "Princess Wencheng" and "Red Man and Green Woman". The school is guided by the innovation of educational concepts and features the cultivation of applied, compound and innovative talents. Students have won more than 110 awards in various competitions and performances across the country and Tianjin, and have also won many gold medals in international competitions and work awards in Canada, the United States and other countries. The school adheres to the school-running philosophy of integrating art education with society, the market, the international community, and the times, adheres to open-style education, diversified training, condenses the direction of disciplines, cultivates school characteristics, and strives to build the school into a domestic media and art college with high level, great influence and outstanding characteristics.
