Tongling University is an application-oriented undergraduate university with distinctive financial characteristics, strong development momentum in engineering, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. Its predecessor was Tongling College of Finance and Economics (founded in 1978). In 2000, it merged with Anhui Metallurgical Industry School (founded in 1958) and Tongling Normal School (founded in 1958), and was upgraded to a general undergraduate university in 2002. The school is located in Tongling City, an important node city in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, a central city in central and southern Anhui, and known as the "Ancient Copper Capital of China and Contemporary Copper Base". There are two campuses, Cuihu and Yuxiu. The campus covers an area of 1,310 acres, with a total area of 489,311.2 square meters of various school buildings, a total value of 211 million yuan for teaching and scientific research equipment, 1.8005 million paper books in the collection, more than 2.6 million electronic books, more than 1,500 Chinese and foreign periodicals, and more than 60 Chinese and foreign databases. In April 2020,"Tongling University Student Maker Space" has become the first national-level makerspace in Anhui Province to be operated by a university. In 2021, the school was approved as a pilot university for the comprehensive reform of "three-dimensional education" in Anhui Province, and was successfully selected as a cooperative university for the Ministry of Education's all-media industry-education integration project for Sino-foreign cultural exchanges. The school teachers have presided over 19 national scientific research projects and won 11 provincial and ministerial scientific research awards. Shen Hao (from Xiaoxian County, Anhui Province), an outstanding Communist Party member, a civil servant who satisfies the people, and a model of grassroots cadres, is an outstanding alumnus of our school. He studied accounting at our school (formerly Tongling Finance and Economics College) from 1984 to 1986, and served as deputy chief clerk, chief clerk, and deputy researcher of the Anhui Provincial Department of Finance.
