Zhongshan College of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China is a full-time general undergraduate independent college. The two parties are the People's Government of Zhongshan City and the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, a Class A university of "world-class university" that is a key national construction project. The school has a history of 36 years since its establishment. Its predecessor was Sun Yat-sen University Sun Yat-sen College established in 1986; in 1995, the school was renamed Zhongshan College and implemented a provincial and municipal co-management, with the city as the main management system; from 2002 to the present, the two parties have jointly organized Zhongshan College of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China; from 2016 to 2020, the school was successively selected as "the first batch of general undergraduate transformation pilot universities in Guangdong Province", "provincial and municipal co-construction" university, and Guangdong Province Higher Education "Strive for the First-Class, Make Up for Shortcomings, and Strengthen Characteristics" Improvement Plan Construction University. The school fully implements the Party’s education policy, adheres to the fundamental mission of cultivating people with moral integrity, upholds the school motto of “virtue, erudition, truth-seeking, and innovation”, carries forward the spirit of “daring to be the first in the world” and “patriotic dedication”, takes “quality-based school, talent-based school, and culture-based school” as the three core strategies, adheres to the dual-wheel drive of “improving the quality of talent training” and “improving independent innovation and serving local capabilities”, and deeply promotes the implementation of the “provincial and municipal co-construction”, “application-oriented transformation pilot construction” and “rushing and strengthening” improvement plan tasks, takes education to serve the local innovation-driven development strategy as its purpose, concentrates superior forces and resources, selects the right direction, grasps the key points, innovates mechanisms, and accelerates the construction of the school into a high-level application-oriented university with distinctive characteristics and outstanding advantages, providing intellectual support and talent guarantee for the economic and social development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The school currently has nearly 1.80,000 people, and the admission score and filing rate are among the best in similar institutions. There are 11 secondary colleges (teaching departments), including the School of Electronic Information, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Computer Science, the School of Materials and Food, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Management, the School of Economics and Trade, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Art and Design, the School of Marxism, and the Department of Physical Education. (I) The school of distinctive disciplines actively integrates into the regional innovation-driven strategy, concentrates superior resources, condenses characteristics and advantages, and promotes the implementation of discipline construction with a goal-oriented approach. "Computer Application Technology" is a key discipline with advantages in Guangdong Province, "Electronic Science and Technology" and "Business Administration" are key disciplines with characteristics in Guangdong Province, and "Material Science and Engineering" is a key discipline for cultivation in Guangdong Province. The number of provincial key disciplines ranks among the top in similar institutions in the province. Driven by the discipline construction, the school has gradually formed a professional layout with electronic majors as the core, engineering and management as the main branches, and coordinated development of engineering, management, economics, science, literature, law, and art. The school currently has 41 undergraduate majors, of which 9 majors such as "Electronic Science and Technology, Electronic Information Engineering, Mechanical Design and Manufacturing and Automation, Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, E-commerce, Business Administration, Law and Product Design" are provincial first-class professional construction points; 18 majors such as "English, Applied Chemistry, Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering" are Guangdong Province's high-quality majors; "Mechanical Design and Manufacturing and Automation, Software Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, Electronic Information Engineering" 4 majors have passed the IEET Engineering Education Certification. (II) Continuously improving the quality of talent training The school takes moral education as its fundamental task and has built a talent training system of "three-stage training and multi-path development" including "general education, professional education, and diversified education", forming an applied talent training model of "ability-oriented, evaluation-driven, and integration-driven", with distinct engineering characteristics and digital economy characteristics. In recent years, the university has obtained national-level new engineering research and practice projects, the National Education Science "13th Five-Year Plan" and other projects, 40 provincial and above industry-university cooperation and collaborative education projects, 3 provincial special talent training plans, 7 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 13 provincial college students' off-campus practice bases, 14 provincial teaching teams, 10 provincial first-class courses, 8 provincial curriculum ideological and political reform demonstration projects, and more than 180 provincial "quality projects" and higher education teaching reform projects. The quality of talent training in the school has been continuously improved. The assessment results of the "Innovation and Strengthening School Project" in 2018 ranked first among similar colleges in the province. In 2019 and 2021, it won the first and second prizes of the Guangdong Provincial Teaching Achievement Award respectively. The school has formed and built distinctive education and practice platforms such as innovation and entrepreneurship basic education, innovation and entrepreneurship practical education, entrepreneurship seed funds, and college students' entrepreneurship incubation bases. In recent years, the school has won 3 national bronze medals, 1 provincial gold medal, 4 provincial silver medals, and 18 provincial bronze medals in the "Internet +" College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. It has established more than 50 national and 300 provincial college students' innovation and entrepreneurship training program projects, and more than 1,000 national and provincial college students' academic, scientific and technological competition awards. Our school entered the "2017-2021 National "Private and Independent Colleges" College Students Competition List (Top 20)", ranking 7th in the country and first in Guangdong Province; in the "2017-2021 National New Undergraduate Colleges and Universities College Students Competition List (Top 100)", it ranked 49th in the country and fourth in Guangdong Province. As early as 2009, the school was rated as the "National Advanced Collective for Employment Work in Colleges and Universities" by the Ministry of Education. It is the only independent college in the country to receive this honor; in 2015, it was rated as the first batch of "Guangdong Province Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Demonstration School", and in 2018, it was re-evaluated and won the title again. For many years, the employment rate of school graduates has been among the top colleges and universities in Guangdong Province. Since 2012, the school has jointly trained graduate students with the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, and has recruited a total of 243 graduate students, 156 of whom have graduated successfully. A group of teachers serve as the main tutors to recruit graduate students at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. In March 2015, the Guangdong Provincial Graduate Joint Training Base (Zhongshan) was established in our school, and has recruited 227 people and graduated 99 people. The school vigorously promotes quality education and has won more than 1,000 national and provincial college student academic, science and technology, cultural and sports competition awards in recent years. The school has outstanding achievements in aesthetic education, and its original dance has won the first prize of the National College Student Art Exhibition and other awards many times, and has appeared on the CCTV stage many times. (III) High-level self-owned teaching staff The school currently has more than 1,000 faculty and staff, and has built a self-owned teaching staff with high professional titles, high education and high quality. Among them, more than 40% have the title of associate senior or above, and about 40% have a doctoral degree. There are a group of excellent teachers in South Guangdong, outstanding talents in Zhongshan City and excellent teachers in Zhongshan City. At the same time, the school has hired more than 100 well-known scholars at home and abroad as part-time and visiting professors. In recent years, the school has strengthened the introduction of high-end talents in various ways, successfully hired a group of national talents, and introduced a group of high-level talents with doctoral degrees and above on a full-time basis. At the same time, it has strengthened internal training, and the number of teachers and the number of people promoted to senior professional titles are among the top universities in the province. (IV) Actively integrate into the collaborative innovation of local industries. The school aims at the needs of major national and local industries, actively integrates into the technology innovation system with enterprises as the core, and increases the intensity of industry-university-research cooperation. Since the joint construction of the province and the city, our school has undertaken more than 1,200 scientific research and social service projects of various types (including National Natural Science Foundation projects, National Social Science Foundation projects, and National Art Foundation projects). Implementing the "please come in, go out" strategy, actively building a school-enterprise cooperation platform, currently has 1 National Key Laboratory Zhongshan Branch Laboratory, 1 University Science and Technology Park of Zhongshan College of University of Electronic Science and Technology (provincial level), 6 provincial engineering technology research centers, 24 municipal scientific research platforms and a number of local think tank platforms. In December 2020, our university science and technology park was recognized as a "provincial university science and technology park" by the Provincial Department of Education and the Provincial Department of Science and Technology. It is the first university science and technology park in Zhongshan City and the first university science and technology park of similar institutions in the province. The school has gradually built an innovation pattern of "big platform, big team, big project, and big achievement", actively connected with major research fields laid out by the country, provinces and cities, and continued to tackle key core technologies around industrial needs. It has undertaken more than 700 industry-university-research projects and cooperated with more than 600 enterprises, driving the added output value of enterprises to exceed 2 billion yuan, and the scientific research funds to the school have steadily increased. Many scientific research results have been evaluated as "leading in the country", and a number of projects have won scientific research awards such as the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, the Guangdong Provincial Philosophy and Social Sciences Outstanding Achievement Award, and the Zhongshan Science and Technology Progress Award, ranking among the best in similar institutions in the province. Our school was rated as the "Excellent Service Institution for Guangdong Innovation Vouchers in 2019" by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and is the only university selected in the province. (V) Extensive foreign exchange and cooperation The school actively carries out international education exchanges and cooperation, and has signed cooperation agreements with many famous universities in the United States, Britain, Australia, Canada, Italy, Japan and other countries and regions to cultivate international talents. The school pays attention to expanding and improving the international vision of teachers and their ability to keep pace with the international community. Every year, it sends key teachers to foreign universities for further study and cooperative research; it invites overseas experts and scholars to teach in our school and conduct academic exchanges. The school currently has 30 cooperation projects in four categories, including joint training, overseas summer semesters, exchange student programs, and overseas short-term paid practice programs. (VI) Superior learning environment The school is located on Lianfeng Mountain in the central area of Zhongshan City, the hometown of the great man Sun Yat-sen. The campus environment is quiet and full of books. It is known as the "Garden University in the Center of the City". It has a modern library with a collection of 2.7 million books; it has nearly 100 high-level teaching laboratories; it has high-standard student apartments and canteens, and all dormitories are equipped with air conditioners; the well-equipped gymnasium, sports field and elegant campus landscape provide students with a good environment for studying. After 36 years of operation, the school has won numerous awards and has become a leader among independent colleges in China.
