The University of Science and Technology of China is a science and engineering university affiliated to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, focusing on cutting-edge science and high-tech, as well as medicine, characteristic management and humanities. The school currently has 32 colleges, including 8 colleges integrating science and education; it has Suzhou Institute of Advanced Studies, Shanghai Institute, Beijing Institute, Institute of Advanced Technology, Institute of International Finance, and the First Affiliated Hospital (Anhui Provincial Hospital). The school was founded in Beijing in September 1958, with Guo Moruo as the first president. This is a red university founded by the older generation of revolutionaries and scientists of our party for the cause of "two bombs and one satellite". Its founding is called "a major event in the history of education and science in my country". After its establishment, the Chinese Academy of Sciences implemented the school-running policy of "running the school by the whole academy and combining institutes and departments", cultivating cutting-edge scientific and technological talents in emerging, marginal and interdisciplinary disciplines with a high starting point and a wide caliber, and brought together a group of famous scientists such as Yan Jici, Hua Luogeng, Qian Xuesen, Zhao Zhongyao, Guo Yonghuai, Zhao Jiuzhang, Bei Shizhang, etc. In the second year of its establishment, it was listed as a national key university. In early 1970, the school moved to Hefei, Anhui Province. Since 1978, the university has been committed to reform and innovation, and has taken the lead in proposing and implementing a series of innovative and forward-looking educational reform measures in the country, including the establishment of junior classes, the first graduate school, the construction of national large-scale scientific projects, and opening up schools to the world. It has become an important base for the country's high-quality talent training and high-level scientific research, and is one of the first universities in the country to implement the "985 Project" and "211 Project". In September 2017 and February 2022, the school was twice selected as a world-class university and a world-class discipline construction university in the country, with a total of 11 disciplines selected for the world-class discipline construction list. Over the past 65 years since its establishment, the school has adhered to the school motto of "going forward with red and expert, integrating theory and practice", dared to be the first, forge ahead, and cultivated a large number of outstanding talents with both ability and integrity, and achieved a series of world-renowned scientific research results, making important contributions to the development of the cause of the Party and the country. The Party Committee of the University fully implements the Party’s education policy, adheres to the socialist direction of running schools, integrates General Secretary Xi Jinping’s series of important instructions on USTC into all aspects of running the school, unites and leads the vast number of party members, cadres, teachers, students and staff of the whole university, deeply understands the decisive significance of the "two establishments", constantly enhances the "four consciousnesses", strengthens the "four self-confidences", and achieves the "two safeguards". Focusing on the two fundamental tasks of "devoting ourselves to moral education and persistently tackling key problems and innovations", we will vigorously promote the construction of "Double First-Class" and strive to build a world-class university with Chinese characteristics and USTC style.
