Wannan Medical College is located in Wuhu, a historical and cultural city known as the "giant port of the Yangtze River and the backbone of Anhui". The school was founded in 1958 as Wuhu Medical College; in 1971, it was merged into Anhui Medical College and became the Wannan Branch of Anhui Medical College; in 1974, it was independently established with the approval of the State Council and named Wannan Medical College; in 1981, it obtained the right to confer bachelor's and master's degrees from the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council; in 1998, it passed the undergraduate teaching work qualification evaluation of the Ministry of Education at one time; in 2008, it successfully passed the undergraduate teaching work level evaluation of the Ministry of Education and won the excellent grade; in 2018, it successfully passed the undergraduate teaching work review and evaluation of the Ministry of Education; in 2019, it became a doctoral degree project construction unit in Anhui Province; in 2020, it passed the clinical medicine professional certification, which is valid for six years. The school takes moral education as its foundation and has formed a talent training system with two levels of master's and bachelor's education, and three types of full-time education, continuing education, and international student education. The school is one of the first batch of pilot universities in the country for the reform of the training model of clinical medicine master's professional degree graduate students. It has 6 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points and 6 master's professional degree authorization categories. The school has 32 undergraduate majors, including 4 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 10 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 1 national characteristic major, 9 provincial characteristic majors, 1 national comprehensive reform pilot major, and 11 provincial comprehensive reform pilot majors. In recent years, the school has been rated as a "provincial party building demonstration university" cultivation and creation unit, the first batch of national health school construction units, and Anhui Province's "three-dimensional education" comprehensive reform pilot university. The school takes discipline construction as the leader, forming a multi-level school-running pattern with medicine as the main focus, coordinated development of multiple disciplines, reasonable layout, and distinctive characteristics. The school's disciplines cover six categories: medicine, science, engineering, management, economics, and law. There is one discipline in the top 1% of ESI in the world. Clinical medicine was selected as a peak discipline in Anhui Province, and three disciplines, basic medicine, pharmacy, and public health and preventive medicine, were selected as provincial peak cultivation disciplines. There are 3 national clinical key specialties, 2 provincial key disciplines, 1 key discipline of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and 31 provincial key specialties and key cultivation specialties. 8 disciplines entered the top 100 national hospitals in terms of scientific and technological value in 2022 and the five-year period from 2018 to 2022. There are 16 provincial scientific research platforms, including Anhui Provincial Key Laboratory for Active Biomacromolecule Research, Anhui Provincial Key Laboratory for Basic and Clinical Transformation of Non-coding RNA, Anhui Provincial Polysaccharide Drug Engineering Technology Research Center, Anhui Provincial Key Research Base for Humanities and Social Sciences of College Students' Mental Health Education Research Center, and Anhui Provincial Southern Area Plant Drug Activity Screening and Re-evaluation Engineering Laboratory. Three academic journals are published, namely "Journal of Wannan Medical College", "Chinese Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics" and "Sleep Research".
