Wuhai Vocational and Technical College was founded in 2004. It is a full-time public general higher vocational college approved by the People's Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and registered by the Ministry of Education of China. It is under the dual leadership of the Education Department of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the People's Government of Wuhai City. It is the only general higher vocational college in Wuhai City. It is an entity with two brands with Wuhai College of Inner Mongolia University of Technology. The college is located on the beautiful shore of Wuhai Lake. The main campus covers an area of 520 acres, with a construction area of 135,700 square meters, fixed assets of 572 million yuan, a green area of 163,300 square meters, and a sports field area of 89,400 square meters. In 2020, a 20,000 square meter student apartment building, a 20,000 square meter teaching building, and a 12,000 square meter service building will be newly built. The Western (Wuhai) Vocational Skills Public Training Center is the second campus, covering an area of nearly 600 acres. It plans to build seven skill training centers for chemical engineering, electromechanical, mining, power generation, construction, management, and auto repair. The college is based in Wuhai City, faces Inner Mongolia, and radiates to the central and western regions. It adheres to the school-running pattern of "taking full-time higher vocational education as the main body, and TV universities and adult education and social training as the two wings". After 19 years of construction, it has developed into a multi-disciplinary local higher vocational college with engineering majors as the main body, coordinated development of various majors, and integrating higher vocational education, undergraduate education, and continuing education; it has established 62 higher vocational majors in eight categories, including chemical engineering, coal, electromechanical, electricity, construction, management, education, and medicine, and the number of stable enrollment majors is about 30. In 2021, two new undergraduate education majors in preschool education and electrical automation, and 11 "3+2" secondary and higher vocational majors will be added. There are more than 7,000 full-time students and 3,200 adult education students. Every year, 5,000 people are trained and appraised for various types of skills for the society. There are 323 faculty and staff, including 14 senior teachers, 88 deputy senior teachers, and 168 master's degree or above. There is 1 "good cadre with responsibility" in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, 1 "Grassland Talent" in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, 1 young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contributions in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, 7 famous teachers in the autonomous region, 9 new teachers in the autonomous region, 1 "good cadre with responsibility" in Wuhai City, and 1 young talent in philosophy and social sciences in Wuhai City. A total of 18,000 graduates have been trained, 70% of whom serve in Wuhai and surrounding areas. The college insists on using Xi Jinping's new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics to cultivate people's souls, adhere to the socialist direction of running schools, fully implement the party's education policy, take "moral education" as the fundamental task, firmly build a sense of community for the Chinese nation, and solidly promote connotation development. Since its establishment, the school has successfully passed two rounds of talent training evaluation by the Ministry of Education, and has been identified as a "national modern apprenticeship pilot unit", the first batch of "1+X" certificate system pilot colleges of the Ministry of Education, the first batch of "National Vocational College Digital Campus Construction Experimental School", and the first batch of "Autonomous Region Demonstration Higher Vocational Colleges". It has won honors such as the Autonomous Region Civilized Campus, the Outstanding Contribution Award for Skilled Talent Cultivation in the Region, and the Autonomous Region High-skilled Talent Training Base Construction Project, and won the Autonomous Region's "Three-dimensional Education" Outstanding Case. In recent years, it has been rated as an outstanding leadership team of higher education institutions by the Autonomous Region Party Committee and the Autonomous Region People's Government, and as an outstanding leadership team of public institutions by the Wuhai Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal People's Government. Teachers have won 2 first prizes and 3 second prizes in the Autonomous Region Teaching Achievement Award, 4 Autonomous Region Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievement Government Awards, and 2 Wuhai City Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievement Government Awards.
