At the foot of Fuhu Mountain and the north bank of Nanhu Lake, talented people from all over the world gather in Huayuan; the great river rushes, Huanglong Mountain reflects, and the fragrance of peaches and plums fills the world. Wuhan University of Technology was founded in 1972. It was formerly known as Hubei Institute of Chemical Technology and Petroleum, and was affiliated to Hubei Province. In 1980, it was renamed Wuhan Institute of Chemical Technology and was managed by the former Ministry of Chemical Industry. In 1998, it was transferred to the management of Hubei Province, and the central and local governments jointly built it, with Hubei Province as the main management. In 2006, it was renamed Wuhan University of Technology. The school is a multidisciplinary teaching and research university with engineering as the main focus, covering nine major disciplines of engineering, science, management, economics, literature, law, art, medicine, and education. It is a key university in Hubei Province and a university for the cultivation and construction of "first-class disciplines" in Hubei Province. The school ranks 145th in the 2023 Soft Science "Best Universities in China" ranking; in the US News 2023 World University Rankings, it ranks 935th in the world and 98th among universities in mainland China. The school has two campuses, Wuchang and Liufang, covering an area of about 2,000 acres. It is a "greening red flag unit" and "ecological garden-style school" in Hubei Province. There are 18 colleges (departments), 1 research and design institute, and 1 independent college. The school recruits students from all over the country. There are more than 26,000 full-time students, including more than 6,000 doctoral and master's students and more than 350 international students. There are more than 2,300 faculty and staff, including 1,470 full-time teachers, and more than 60% of full-time teachers have senior professional titles. The library has a collection of more than 4.4 million books (including electronic books and electronic journals), and is an "excellent library" and "Hubei Provincial Research-level Document Collection Unit" of Hubei Province's colleges and universities. The school has 2 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 23 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, 2 postdoctoral research mobile stations, and 1 postdoctoral research workstation. Five disciplines, including chemistry, materials science, engineering, environment/ecology, and agricultural science, are among the top 1% in the world in ESI. There are 74 undergraduate majors, including 5 national specialty majors; 19 national first-class professional construction sites and 16 provincial first-class professional construction sites, accounting for 56.7% of undergraduate enrollment majors; 13 majors have passed the engineering education certification of the Ministry of Education and 1 major evaluation (certification) of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. The school insists on educating people for the Party and cultivating talents for the country. There are 3 national "model branches" and 2 cultivation and creation units for party building work, 2 "benchmark colleges and departments" and 2 "model branches" for party building work in the province, 3 cultivation and creation units for the "double leaders" teacher branch secretary studios in colleges and universities in the province, 2 cultivation and creation units for "graduate student model party branches" in colleges and universities in the province, and 2 "graduate student model" cultivation and creation individuals in colleges and universities in the province. According to statistics from the Provincial Department of Economics and Information Technology, taking the chemical and pharmaceutical industries in Hubei Province as an example, among the more than 80 large and medium-sized chemical and pharmaceutical units with an output value of more than 100 million yuan, nearly 70% of the main persons in charge are alumni of the school, and the school is known as the "cradle of high-level chemical talents". The school's achievements in running schools, talent training results, and employment work have been reported by news media such as Guangming Daily and China Education Daily many times. The school insists on serving the national and regional economic and social development as its mission, actively plays the advantages of chemical engineering and related disciplines, deeply integrates into Hubei's "51020" modern industrial system, and strives to strengthen the strategic layout of the government-industry-university-research-application cooperation network. There are currently 78 scientific research platforms at the provincial (ministerial) level and above, including the National Engineering Technology Research Center for the Development and Utilization of Phosphorus Resources, the Key Laboratory of Green Chemical Processes of the Ministry of Education, and the Engineering Research Center for the Development and Utilization of Phosphorus Resources of the Ministry of Education. In the Yangtze River Economic Belt, 13 scientific and technological innovation platforms such as the Hubei Three Gorges Laboratory have been jointly built with local governments, and the development planning of most chemical industrial parks in Hubei has been undertaken. It has taken the lead in undertaking 52 key projects of the National Key R&D Program, and 309 scientific research results have won national, provincial and ministerial scientific research achievement awards, including 7 national science and technology awards. It has carried out joint research with Hubei Yihua, Renfu Pharmaceutical and other units in the fields of phosphorus chemical industry, electronic chemicals, anesthetic preparations, etc., solved the "stuck neck" technical problems in the field of phosphate ore dressing, and conquered the "stuck neck" technology such as the preparation of electronic grade phosphoric acid for ultra-high purity chips, extending the service life of phosphate resources for the country by more than 60 years. The school was shortlisted in the top 100 universities in China for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements for two consecutive years from 2020 to 2021. The "Chemistry and Bioengineering" sponsored by the school was included in the "Overview of Chinese Core Journals" and the "Catalogue of Chinese Science and Technology Core Journals". As a key construction unit in Hubei Province that has the qualification to recruit international students earlier among Hubei provincial universities, it vigorously recruits undergraduate, master and doctoral students from countries along the "Belt and Road" in Asia, Africa, Europe and Oceania to create an international business card for "Studying in Gongda".
