Wuhan University of Light Industry was founded in 1951. It is located in Wuhan, Hubei Province, which is known as the "crossroads of nine provinces". It is the earliest school in the country to train specialized talents in the grain industry. It was successively affiliated to the former Ministry of Grain, Ministry of Commerce, and Ministry of Domestic Trade. In 1998, it implemented a management system jointly built by the central and local governments, with Hubei Province as the main management. It is a key university jointly built by the State Administration of Grain and Material Reserves and the People's Government of Hubei Province, a "double first-class" university in Hubei Province, and the first batch of undergraduate universities in Hubei Province.
