Wuhan University of Technology is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education. It is one of the first universities included in the national "211 Project" and "Double First-Class" construction. It is a university jointly built by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Transport. The history of the school originated from the Hubei Industrial School established in 1898. In the past 125 years, especially in the past 70 years, the school has trained nearly 700,000 senior professionals. It is the largest school in the Ministry of Education directly under the Ministry of Education to train talents for the three major industries of building materials, construction, transportation, and automobiles. It is an important base for the cultivation of high-level talents and scientific and technological innovation in my country's "three major industries". At present, the school has more than 37,000 undergraduate students, more than 23,000 doctoral and master students, and more than 900 international students. After a long period of education practice, the school has formed a distinctive school-running ideology system: it has built the university ideal of "building an excellent university that satisfies the people and is admired by the world", forged the university spirit of "virtue, erudition and pursuit of excellence", established the school-running philosophy of "education-oriented, academic supremacy", and established the excellent education concept of "implementing excellent education, cultivating excellent talents, and creating excellent life". The school is committed to cultivating generations of excellent talents who lead their lives with wisdom, have excellent pursuits and excellent abilities for the society. The school currently has Mafangshan Campus, Yujiatou Campus and Nanhu Campus, covering an area of nearly 4,000 acres, with a total building area of 1.953 million square meters, and 4 modern libraries with more than 4.0773 million books. There are 25 colleges and 5 independent scientific research institutes. There are more than 5,300 faculty and staff, including more than 400 people selected for national, provincial and ministerial talent plans (projects). The school has formed a discipline and professional system with engineering as the main discipline, and the integration and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as science, engineering, economics, management, art, literature, and law. There are 22 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 44 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, and 21 postdoctoral research mobile stations; there are 5 doctoral professional degree authorization categories and 26 master's professional degree authorization categories. The discipline of materials science and engineering has been selected as a national "double first-class" construction discipline for two consecutive rounds. There are 101 undergraduate majors, including 54 national first-class undergraduate major construction points, 15 national characteristic majors, 28 pilot majors for the education and training program of outstanding engineers, 4 national comprehensive reform pilot majors, and 2 national strategic emerging industry majors. There are 61 national first-class undergraduate courses, 17 national quality resource sharing courses, 8 national quality video open courses, and 3 national course ideological and political demonstration courses. It has 5 national teaching teams, 4 experimental areas for talent training mode of the Ministry of Education, 5 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 1 national virtual simulation experimental teaching center, 13 national engineering practice education centers, 1 international demonstration college, 1 national college practice education innovation and entrepreneurship base, 1 national entrepreneurship incubation demonstration base and 1 national college graduate employment ability training base, 1 characteristic studio of career consultation of the Ministry of Education, 1 national maker space, 1 national university science and technology park, 1 national innovation and entrepreneurship college, and 5 national virtual teaching and research rooms. In the past five years, the school has trained a group of outstanding college students in the country, 1 person won the title of "the most beautiful college student in the country", 2 people won the title of "Chinese college student of the year", 1 person won the title of "Chinese college student self-improvement star model", 13 people won the title of "Chinese college student self-improvement star", 3 people won the "Chinese youth volunteer outstanding individual award", 1 person won the title of "national anti-epidemic youth volunteer service advanced individual", 2 people won the title of "national outstanding Communist Youth League member", and 1 person won the title of "Chinese youth good netizen". The school ranked fourth in the country in the 2018-2022 National College Student Competition List (Undergraduate) released by the China Higher Education Society, and ranked first in the country twice in the 2018 and 2022 National College Student Competition List (Undergraduate). The school's graduate employment rate has remained above 95% for nearly ten years, of which more than 50% of the total number of employed people work in Fortune 500 companies and strategic emerging industries. At the National Employment and Entrepreneurship Work Conference held in 2021, the school was the only university representative to make a typical speech. In July 2023, CCTV's "Focus Interview" column reported on the employment work of our school. The school has built 50 national and provincial and ministerial scientific research bases, including the National Key Laboratory of New Materials Composite Technology, the National Engineering Research Center for Fiber Optic Sensing Technology and Networks, the National Key Laboratory of Silicate Building Materials, the National Water Transport Safety Engineering Technology Research Center, and the National Key Laboratory of Waterway Traffic Control. It has built three provincial and ministerial collaborative innovation platforms, including the Collaborative Innovation Platform for Inland Intelligent Shipping and Transportation Industry, the Hubei Collaborative Innovation Center for Automotive Parts Technology, and the Hubei Collaborative Innovation Center for Safety Warning and Emergency Linkage Technology. The school was approved as a pilot unit for the construction of a strong transportation country, and was selected as one of the first batch of national intellectual property demonstration universities and the second batch of colleges and universities' scientific and technological achievements transformation and technology transfer bases. It has co-built 166 scientific and technological cooperation and achievement transformation institutions such as off-site scientific research institutions, industry-university-research cooperation service platforms, and school-enterprise scientific and technological cooperation platforms with local governments and industry enterprises. In the past five years, the school has won 1 National Natural Science Award, 1 National Technological Invention Award, and 2 National Science and Technology Progress Awards; won 121 provincial and ministerial first-class science and technology awards and above, of which 49 were won as the first completing unit. 5,458 invention patents were authorized, and 5 Chinese patent awards were won as the first patent owner. Published 6 papers in the world's top academic journals Science and 4 papers in Nature. The school has established relationships with more than 190 universities and scientific research institutions in countries and regions such as the United States, Britain, Japan, France, Canada, Australia, Russia, and the Netherlands, and has hired more than 160 famous foreign scholars as strategic scientists, visiting professors, and honorary professors of the school. In addition, the only Sino-French cooperative school in Hubei Province, Wuhan University of Technology Aix-Marseille College, was established, and 18 high-level international research cooperation platforms were established with famous foreign universities and research institutions. The school has successively established 12 national-level international scientific and technological cooperation bases, including the International Joint Laboratory for New Materials Composite Technologies, the International Science and Technology Cooperation Base for Environmentally Friendly Building Materials, and the International Science and Technology Cooperation Base for Intelligent Shipping and Maritime Safety. It held the world's first "World University Materials Science and Engineering Leadership Forum", successfully hosted the 7th World Military Games Judo Event, initiated the establishment of the "Belt and Road" Polytechnic University Alliance, and the Confucius Institute jointly built by the school and the University of Lorraine in France was awarded the title of "Advanced Confucius Institute".
