Wuhu Vocational and Technical College is the first batch of national model higher vocational colleges in Anhui and the first national higher vocational college talent training work level assessment excellent college. It was selected into the Chinese characteristic high-level higher vocational school and professional construction plan, and is the only high-level school construction unit in Anhui. The school was founded in 1983 and was formerly known as Wuhu Union University; it was renamed in 1997; in 2000, the Wuhu Agricultural School with a century-old history of schooling was merged; in 2012, it merged with Wuhu Information Technology Vocational College; in 2022, Wuhu Normal School and Wuhu Vocational and Technical College Affiliated Secondary Vocational School were integrated and merged; in 2023, with the approval of the provincial government and the filing of the Ministry of Education, the establishment of the undergraduate-level Wuhu Vocational and Technical University based on Wuhu Vocational and Technical College was included in the Anhui Province's "14th Five-Year Plan" for the establishment of higher education institutions. The school has been rated or selected as a national high-quality higher vocational college, a national advanced unit of vocational education, a national demonstration school for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform (the only higher vocational college in Anhui), the Huang Yanpei Vocational Education Award "Excellent School Award", a national advanced unit of mass sports, a national innovation and entrepreneurship education practice base, the first batch of modern apprenticeship pilot colleges in the country, the first batch of pilot schools for the construction of digital campuses in vocational colleges of the Ministry of Education, a national vocational education "double-qualified" teacher training base, Anhui Province "four-year system" technical and skilled undergraduate talent training model reform pilot college, Anhui Province Advanced Grassroots Party Organization, Anhui Province Graduate Employment Work Unit with Obvious Results, Anhui Province Civilized Unit, Anhui Province Civilized Campus, Anhui Province "Three-dimensional Education" Comprehensive Reform Pilot College, Anhui Province Advanced Foreign Affairs Unit. The school currently has Wenjin, Yinhu, Baima, Nanling and other campuses, covering an area of more than 2,400 acres, a building area of more than 800,000 square meters, and teaching instruments and equipment with a total value of more than 300 million yuan. It has 23 teaching units and Anhui Wuhu Instrument and Meter Research Institute. There are 70 majors for enrollment, more than 20,000 full-time students, and more than 3,000 students of adult higher education. The proportion of teachers with senior professional titles exceeds 30%, and the proportion of teachers with dual professional qualifications exceeds 95%. It has 56 provincial-level teaching teams, famous teachers (masters) studios, and demonstration grassroots teaching and research rooms; more than 400 high-level talents such as provincial-level famous teachers, professional leaders, and outstanding talents in disciplines (majors); 44 scientific and technological platforms of all levels and types; various high-level professional groups, achievement awards, resource libraries, and competition awards at or above the provincial level are among the best in the province, and it has won the national teaching achievement award for four consecutive sessions. The school adheres to the purpose of service, closely grasps the pulse of national strategies and local economic development, and innovates and promotes the integrated school-enterprise cooperation talent training model of "teaching cooperation, management participation, cultural integration, and employment orders" in accordance with the "local, market-oriented, application-oriented, and open" school-running ideas, and embarks on a characteristic development path that relies on the local economy, serves the local economy, deepens school-enterprise cooperation, integrates production and education, combines work and study, and integrates knowledge and action. The school adheres to the principles of moral education, three-dimensional education, five-dimensional education, and moral and technical training, and actively explores the construction of an "immersive" cultural education system that integrates red culture, traditional culture, craftsman culture, model worker culture, and innovative culture. Relying on "one center, three bases, and three brands", it promotes the innovation of ideological and political work in the new era; relying on the "three-dimensional education and five-guide new model", it solves students' ideological and practical problems with a problem-oriented approach. The school initiated the establishment of a national alliance for the construction of ideological and political theory courses in higher vocational colleges, and built a national ideological and political course exchange platform for higher vocational colleges; and jointly established the "Yangtze River Delta Higher Vocational College Ideological and Political Course Construction Cooperation Association" with some higher vocational schools in the Yangtze River Delta region. The school explored the integration of "job courses, competitions and certificates" to educate people, integrated vocational, industry, skill competitions and 1+X certificate standards into curriculum standards and classroom teaching, deepened the reform of the sports club system, and built a "four-in-one" aesthetic education work pattern of curriculum teaching, practical activities, campus culture, and art performances, and promoted the combination of labor education with daily life, public welfare services, and internships and training, and promoted the comprehensive development of students' morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor. The school adheres to the employment-oriented approach, explores and practices the "cooperative school-running, cooperative education, cooperative employment, and cooperative development" between schools and enterprises, and the professional skills and comprehensive qualities of students have been widely praised by employers. The employment destination implementation rate and employment quality of graduates are firmly in the forefront of similar universities in the province. The school adheres to the typological reform of enrollment work, forms an enrollment-training-employment linkage mechanism, establishes and improves the "culture + occupation (skills)" multi-evaluation and recruitment mechanism, explores the implementation path of the "vocational education college entrance examination", and takes the lead in carrying out undergraduate talent training pilot projects in the province. The school effectively integrates the advantages of the government, industry and enterprises, and gradually forms a "4433" innovation and entrepreneurship collaborative education model. The number and quality of graduate entrepreneurship are firmly in the forefront of similar colleges and universities in the country, forming a "hundreds of millions" of work results, and is known as the "Wuzhi phenomenon" of entrepreneurial education in colleges and universities. The school actively carries out foreign exchanges, continuously strengthens exchanges and cooperation with overseas universities and educational institutions such as Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Australia, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, etc., and solidly promotes the establishment of cooperative relations with colleges and universities along the "Belt and Road". In 2018, the school officially obtained the qualification to recruit international students, and has recruited more than 100 international students from Cambodia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Morocco and other countries, forming a "four-in-one, three-certificate integration" international student order class training model. The school actively explores new modes of cooperation with South Korea and other countries, recruits nearly 800 students in Sino-foreign cooperative classes, and takes the lead in building a number of Tanzanian national occupational standards development projects. The school is one of the earliest universities in Anhui Province to carry out continuing education. It has a senior citizen university, a night university, a self-study service center, a Chongqing University distance education learning center, and multiple teaching points distributed in southern Anhui. The school is a social evaluation organization for the certification of vocational skills in Wuhu City and one of the first national demonstration vocational skills appraisal institutes in the country. It currently has more than 50 national, provincial, and municipal training bases and vocational qualification test sites, more than 100 training projects, and has created social training platforms such as the Anhui Veterans Vocational Education Training Alliance, Wuhu Education Management Cadre Training Base, and Intelligent Manufacturing Industry Employee Training Center. It has jointly built Wuhu Craftsman College, Public Security Auxiliary Police College, Wuhu Discipline Inspection and Supervision College, and Wuhu Veterans College, exploring and forming a new model of "knowledge update, technology improvement" characteristic academic continuing education, and becoming a comprehensive and multi-functional continuing education center in southern Anhui.
