Wuxi Institute of Technology is a full-time general college affiliated to the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education. It is a construction unit of Jiangsu Province's high-level vocational schools with Chinese characteristics, a model vocational college in Jiangsu Province, and an excellent college for the evaluation of talent training in higher vocational colleges of the Ministry of Education. It has successively won the honorary titles of Jiangsu Province May 1st Labor Award, Jiangsu Province Civilized Campus, Jiangsu Province Safe Campus, etc. The school originated from Jiangsu Yixing Primary Ceramics Vocational School founded in 1933. It has gone through the stages of Jiangsu Provincial Yixing Ceramics Vocational School, Taodu Industrial University, Jiangsu Yixing Ceramics Industrial School, Jiangsu Yixing Light Industry School, etc. It was upgraded to Wuxi Institute of Technology in 2004. The school is located in Yixing, a beautiful and rich city with rich humanities. It covers an area of nearly 1,000 acres and a construction area of more than 290,000 square meters. The entire campus is built on the mountain, with red tiles and white walls, and is scattered. It is an ecological, garden-style, digital modern Jiangnan campus that integrates mountains and waters. The school adheres to the differentiated and characteristic development strategy, actively connects with local industries, and actively integrates into regional economic and social development. After 90 years of construction and development, the school has now developed into a comprehensive higher vocational college featuring purple clay pottery, focusing on art design, covering wires and cables, optometry technology, Internet of Things technology, e-commerce and other arts, arts, culture and commerce. It currently has 6 secondary colleges including the School of Ceramics, School of Media Arts and Design, School of Environmental Arts and Design, School of Fashion Arts and Design, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, School of Economics and Management, and 4 public teaching units including the School of Marxism, Basic Department, Sports Department, and School of Continuing Education. It offers 37 majors, among which ceramic design and technology, clothing and apparel design, wire and cable manufacturing technology, interior art design, animation design, and marketing are provincial key construction majors; materials engineering technology, optometry technology, etc. are unique majors in provincial higher vocational colleges. The teaching facilities are advanced and well-equipped. There are currently 2 national-level vocational education training bases supported by the central government, 3 provincial-level training bases, 3 provincial-level industry-education deep integration training platforms, 3 provincial-level engineering technology research centers, and 272 experimental training rooms. The school recruits students nationwide and focuses on cultivating high-quality technical and skilled talents to serve regional development. There are currently more than 10,000 students on campus. The school adheres to the fundamental principle of establishing morality and cultivating people, implements the "dual-source dual-innovation dual-integration" talent training model, and continuously deepens education and teaching reforms. There are currently 2 majors supported by the central finance to enhance the ability of professional service industry development projects, 2 provincial high-level professional groups of higher vocational education, 1 provincial university brand major, 4 provincial high-level backbone majors, 2 provincial characteristic majors, 4 provincial key construction professional groups, 3 provincial demonstration key construction majors, and 1 higher vocational undergraduate collaborative education major. In 2019, the school became a national "1+X certificate system pilot" institution. At present, it has obtained 15 "1+X" pilot certificates, and the coverage rate of docking assessment majors has reached 90%. At present, the school is a national base for the inheritance of excellent traditional Chinese culture in ordinary colleges and universities (Yixing Zisha Pottery), the chairman unit of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Vocational Education Alliance, the national vocational college intangible cultural heritage education inheritance demonstration base, the Chinese Arts and Crafts Masters Inheritance and Innovation Base, the Chinese Ceramics Vocational Skills Training Base, the national vocational college national cultural inheritance and innovation demonstration major, and the Jiangsu Province Chinese Traditional Culture Inheritance Base Founding School.
