Xi'an Aviation University is a full-time general college with engineering as the main discipline and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. It is located in the historical and cultural city of Xi'an. The school was founded in 1955 and was formerly known as Xi'an Aviation Industry School, which was affiliated to the former Ministry of Aviation Industry. In 1957, it merged with Lanzhou Aviation Industry School. In 1960, it was upgraded to a junior college and renamed Xi'an Aviation Industry College. Later, it was restored due to the adjustment of the national economy. In 1985, it was upgraded to Xi'an Aviation Industry Technical College with the approval of the former State Education Commission, and was renamed Xi'an Aviation Technology College in 1993. In 1999, it was transferred to the local government and affiliated to the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government. It is a central and local jointly built institution. In 2012, it was upgraded to a general undergraduate college with the approval of the Ministry of Education and renamed Xi'an Aviation University. The school is the only undergraduate college in the Northwest region that recruits and trains students in flight technology, and is a reserve college for the promotion of the "14th Five-Year Plan" education power project. It is currently the vice chairman unit of the National Alliance of Newly Established Undergraduate Colleges and Universities, the executive director unit of the China Association for Promoting Industry-University-Research Cooperation, and the director unit of the China School-Enterprise Collaborative Industry-University-Research Innovation Alliance. Shaanxi Normal University currently has two campuses in Lianhu and Yanliang, covering an area of 1,158 acres and a building area of more than 450,000 square meters; the total value of teaching instruments and equipment is 246.8985 million yuan; there are more than 1.19 million paper books and more than 1.77 million electronic books; there are 143 on-campus internship bases and laboratories such as the Aviation Engine Structure and System Laboratory and the Civil Aviation Operation Control Simulation Laboratory, and 124 off-campus internship training bases; there is a school-run factory integrating teaching, scientific research, and production; it has the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Special Pump System Technology, the Shaanxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Hydraulic Technology, the Shaanxi Provincial Pump Equipment Engineering Research Center, the Shaanxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Intelligent Perception and Processing Technology of Multimodal Heterogeneous Information of Aircraft, the Shaanxi Provincial Engineering Research Center for Aviation Material Surface Interface Design and Application, the Shaanxi Provincial Engineering Research Center for Aviation Intelligent Manufacturing Technology and Application, and the Shaanxi Provincial “Four Subjects and One Joint” Cultural Relics Intelligent Monitoring and Digital Utilization School-Enterprise Joint Research Center and other national and provincial scientific research platforms, and has 7 school-level scientific research institutions such as the General Aviation Engineering Technology Center and the Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Technology. At present, the school has more than 14,000 full-time students; more than 1,000 faculty and staff, including 355 senior professionals, 778 with postgraduate degrees (239 doctors), and 707 full-time teachers; 27 visiting professors, including 2 academicians and more than 20 famous experts and scholars; it has 1 national teaching team, 8 provincial teaching teams, 1 provincial college youth innovation team, and 4 provincial curriculum ideological and political teaching teams; 6 provincial teaching masters, 3 provincial excellent teachers and excellent young teachers, 6 provincial model teachers and advanced teachers, 4 Shaanxi Youth Outstanding Talent Support Program, and 8 people serve as members of the Shaanxi Higher Education Teaching Steering Committee. The school has 16 teaching and research units, including the Aircraft College, Civil Aviation College, Mechanical Engineering College, Electronic Engineering College, Materials Engineering College, Computer College, Energy and Architecture College, Vehicle Engineering College, Economics and Management College, Humanities and Foreign Languages College (Public Art Education Center), Science College, Marxism College, Sports Department, Continuing Education College, Sergeant College and Hydraulic Technology Research Institute. The university offers 38 undergraduate majors, including aircraft manufacturing engineering, aircraft power engineering, flight technology, materials science and engineering, and robotics engineering, covering 19 major professional categories, including aerospace, machinery, materials, electrical, transportation, and business administration, involving 6 disciplines, including engineering and management. It currently has 1 national first-class major, 8 provincial first-class majors, 1 provincial undergraduate major comprehensive reform pilot project, 3 provincial talent training model innovation experimental zones, 3 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 1 provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching center, and 4 provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching projects; 44 national quality resource sharing courses, provincial first-class undergraduate courses, and quality online open courses. It has won 18 teaching achievement awards, including 1 national, 1 provincial special prize, and 6 first prizes. In recent years, the school has undertaken 22 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 3 humanities and social science projects of the Ministry of Education, 136 Shaanxi Natural Science Foundation projects, and 12 Shaanxi Social Science Foundation projects; won 1 third prize of Shaanxi Science and Technology Award; approved 1 key laboratory of Shaanxi Higher Education Institutions, 2 engineering research centers of Shaanxi Higher Education Institutions, 1 Shaanxi "Four Subjects and One Joint" school-enterprise joint research center, 13 scientific research achievement awards above the departmental level, 1,037 authorized patents, and 4,852 academic papers published, of which 764 were included in SCI, EI and other retrievals, and 1,314 were included in core journals. The school attaches great importance to the cultivation of students' innovative spirit and practical ability. In various innovation and entrepreneurship competitions at all levels such as the China International College Student Innovation Competition, the National College Student Electronic Design Competition, the Mathematical Modeling Competition, and the Aerospace Model Championship, the school has won 1,129 national awards and 1,403 provincial awards. Students have undertaken a total of 548 national and provincial innovation and entrepreneurship training projects. The school has been approved as the Shaanxi Provincial College Practice Education Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base, the Shaanxi Provincial College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Training Base, the Shaanxi Provincial College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Practice Base, and the Xi'an Public Innovation Space. The school adheres to the fine tradition of running a school with engineering as the main focus and emphasizing the cultivation of practical ability, adheres to the "industry, local, and application-oriented" school-running positioning, conforms to the regional economic and social development and industry needs, and builds its unique advantages. It has formed a "one body and two wings" discipline layout with aviation manufacturing as the main body and transport aviation and general aviation as the two wings. Relying on Yanliang's "China Aviation City", it vigorously promotes the collaborative innovation of government, industry, academia, research and application, and has initially established a "resource sharing, talent co-education, process co-management, and achievement sharing" cooperation mechanism; it has established close cooperative relations with hundreds of state-owned large and medium-sized enterprises and institutions such as Aviation Industry Corporation of China and Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, and has carried out the "3+1" customized class training for aviation maintenance technicians with the 5720th Factory of the People's Liberation Army, and cooperated with Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Co., Ltd. to establish a "large aircraft class" and a "sea technology class" with HNA Aviation Technology Co., Ltd.; it has jointly trained "sergeants" with the Rocket Force and the Strategic Support Force, achieving a simultaneous improvement in employment rate and employment quality. The school adheres to the principle of open education, and cooperates with the University of Applied Sciences North Hessen in Germany to organize the first dual-degree undergraduate education program in Shaanxi Province.
